SWINDON’S Kelly Morgan is ready to write the next chapter of her exciting fledgling boxing career as she looks to keep momentum on her side.

Morgan admits there will be a different feel around training as she returns to the pads for the first time since claiming her WBC Silver Middleweight crown.

Little more than a week since her points victory over Lisa Cielas, Morgan will be back in the gym today and will be looking for a more straight-forward camp than she had in the build-up to the last fight, after her bout with Gifty Ankrah was called off at the eleventh hour.

Morgan’s win over Cielas is still sinking in but she is ready to put that behind her now and focus on the next challenge.

“It does feel different going into the camp as a defending champion,” she said.

“Still hearing those words, I’m like ‘really? Me?’ “Maybe when I reflect on the whole year and everything that has happened it will start to sink in.

“I feel ready to get stuck in and I don’t even think it is a physical thing but the difference of starting this camp compared to the last one, which was straight after that cancelled show, is completely different.

“I have had that opportunity to compete so I feel like it is out of my system and all of that hard work has come to something.

“Now I am free and fresh to start again mentally more than anything physically.

“Don’t get me wrong, I have got that sense of 'here we go again' and I know how I will be feeling in a couple of days but we are positively moving onto the next chapter now.”

A date and opponent are yet to be confirmed for Morgan, who has one eye on a future shot at the WBC world female middleweight title that was claimed by American Kali Reis back in April this year.

The fight is not expected to be before the end of July however, Morgan knows it is important to return to the ring to maintain her impetus.

“We have to start tomorrow in case of worst case scenario and it is six or seven weeks away and we have got time to prepare properly,” she added.

“With only a week off, I have been ticking over very lightly, we have got to keep the benefits of the last camp because we are only potentially going to have a short camp this time.

“The support and momentum is just fantastic and as a sports person it is what I dream of, having everybody with me. I am looking forward to starting camp and being put on my backside again and getting back to learning.

“I am not any amazing boxer. I am a massive learner and I am looking forward to learning more in this camp and building on that.

“The title is just a very happy side note that will hopefully open doors more than anything.

“I am looking forward to starting this training camp and going into the next fight with more improvements.”
