A DISASTROUS finish ended David Howell’s chances of making the cut at the BMW International after he shot a second straight two-over par round today.

Swindon star Howell had hauled himself up to one-over overall with three holes to play in Pulheim, Germany, and within one shot of the projected cutline, but he surrendered three strokes on his final three holes to blow his bid of staying for the weekend.

Broome Manor man Howell carded a double bogey seven at the par-five seventh – his 16th after starting on the 10th hole – before then bogeying the last to finish with a second round of 74 in as many days to finish four-over overall.

Teeing off on the 10th hole two-over par, Howell began his day badly as he opened up with a bogey. No birdies arrived on his front nine and another bogey on 17 – his eighth hole – saw him reach the turn at two-over.

Howell suddenly clicked into gear as head headed for home though, starting his second nine with a run of three straight birdies to give himself a shot of making the cut.

However, he could not sustain that form and the woeful finish to his round scuppered his chances of staying at Golf Club Gut Laerchenhof over the weekend.

Howell’s four-over total is currently four shots adrift of the projected cutline at level par and has him in a tie for 125th place.

Frenchman Raphael Jacquelin is the current leader in the clubhouse after a four-under second round of 68 to take him to 11-under overall.
