MIDFIELDER Ben Gladwin says he is relishing the chance to pit his wits against his former teammates after Swindon Town drew Queens Park Rangers in the EFL Cup.

Gladwin spent two seasons at the County Ground after signing from Marlow before making the move to West London last summer in a mover that also took Massimo Luongo to Loftus Road.

It was the Australian who informed Gladwin of the draw and with the midfielder having spent a 13 game spell back in Wiltshire last term on loan, there will be plenty of familiar faces when the two teams line-up in the tunnel in August.

“I first heard about the draw when Mass text me,” he told QPR’s website.

“I’m quite looking forward to it – it will be nice to see some old faces. And it’s good that we’re at home. Hopefully we can progress.

“I had a great time at Swindon. They took me from non-league and allowed me to gain experience playing professional football. So I have very-fond memories.

“You go into every game hoping to win it. If we can string a little cup run together, that’d be good for morale and momentum – especially early on in the season.”

Meanwhile, having been loaned out to two different clubs last season – he had a brief spell at Bristol City where he made just one appearance – Gladwin is looking to cement a place in Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s plans for next term.

The midfielder returned to West London from Ashton Gate early and the 24-year-old was able to end last campaign having made five appearances, including two starts, during Ranger’s run in.

Gladwin has admitted that his first season in the Championship did not pan out how he wanted but is keen to put that right during pre-season.

“The aim is to do as well as we can do this year – whether that’s league or cup,” he added.

“I just want to get myself on the pitch as much as possible.

“Last season was a bit of a disappointing one for me – I didn’t really get going.

“So I’ll try and get through pre-season fit, well and playing games. We’ll see how the season goes from there.

“My aim is to get myself in the team and stay there.”

Swindon travel to QPR on Tuesday, August 9, for a 7.45pm kick-off despite QPR playing a league game with Leeds United on Sunday, August 7.

Tickets cost £10 for adults with season tickets and £15 without, while Junior under 18 ticket holders can get in for £1, or £5 without, and Seniors and young adults (18-21) are £5 with season tickets and £10 without.
