SWINDON Robins boss Alun Rossiter was proud to see four of his charges make Australia’s World Cup long list but one of those riders – Nick Morris – doesn’t hold too much hope of representing his country in Sweden next month.

Swindon’s Morris, Jason Doyle, Josh Grajczonek and Rohan Tungate have all been named in Australia’s initial 10-man World Cup squad, with the Aussies beginning their campaign in event two in Vastervik on July 26.

Morris, 22, represented Australia in the World Cup for the first time in 2015, with his side finishing fourth in the final, but after a mixed season so far, he believes that his chances of making national manager Mark Lemon’s final four are slim.

“I haven’t had the best season and a few of the other boys are really going good, so I don’t expect to be in it this year, going off the form I’ve been in so far,” said the Robins man.

“I’m just going to worry about doing my best and if it happens, it happens, but it’s not the end of the world if it doesn’t.”

Great Britain chief Rossiter, who has also named his own 10-man selection, is pleased to see four of his riders in the reckoning for Australia berths, although he considers Grand Prix star Doyle the only banker.

World champion Tai Woffinden, British champion Danny King and veteran Scott Nicholls have all been included on Rossiter’s list and when it comes to selecting the four who will don the Union Jack at Belle Vue on July 30 – as hosts, GB have been handed a bye to the final – Swindon’s national team boss admits he still has plenty of tough decisions to make.

“It’s going to be tough. I couldn’t tell you (who I’m going to select) at the moment,” said Rossiter.

“There’s probably only one gimme in Tai and the rest are going to have to battle it out, so the next month’s going to be very interesting to see who makes the rest of the four-man team.

“I was really pleased for (my Australians). Nick knows he’s got to up his game but Jason will surely be there. Whether Josh gets in there; I don’t know.”
