PORT Vale manager Bruno Ribeiro believes his side were the better of the two, despite losing 1-0 at the County Ground.

The Vale boss said his team were unlucky not to come away with at least a point as Brad Barry’s goal proved to be enough for Swindon to seal a home victory.

“The first 15 minutes we were not good, after half an hour we were very good, we created three or four chances to score,” he said.

“At half time I spoke and I said we will win this game, but we came from half time and it was just a little bit slippy, one mistake, they score and after it was difficult.”

His side went into the break with all the momentum, Swindon were being bombarded with long balls into the box from all areas but managed to get to the interval unscathed.

It was moments into the second half Town got their noses in front, when Barry finished off a sublime passing move involving Jamie Sendles-White and Michael Doughty.

Port Vale then tried to make an impact of their own, but Town stood resolute as they continued to frustrate the visitors.

That frustration caused the game to descend into a scrappy affair at times, which suited Swindon as it meant there was no real pace to the fixture.

The Valiants did come close on a few occasions, but nothing clear cut or troubling for Lawrence Vigouroux in the Town goal. Speaking after the final whistle it was clear Ribeiro thinks his side should have got more from the game but admitted Vale needed to be more clinical with their chances.

“We are training hard and we will keep working,” he added.

“Today, if we had scored two or three goals we could have won this game because we were much better than Swindon today.

“We had six or seven chances to score today, when you have chances away from home and you don’t score it is difficult to win.”
