ALUN Rossiter’s Swindon Robins look to be closing in on a spot in the Elite League play-offs but the Abbey Stadium chief doesn’t want his side to ease off the throttle now that they’re in ‘the driving seat’.

On Monday night, Rossiter’s troops shone as they vanquished reigning champions Poole Pirates 50-42 at Blunsdon to move level on points with their fierce Dorset rivals.

The Robins go to Wolverhampton Wolves on Monday, August 29 but if top-four rivals Lakeside Hammers fail to secure any points from their trip to the Coventry Bees on Friday, Swindon’s place in the end-of-season shake-up could be confirmed next week.

The men from the Abbey will host Leicester Lions on Thursday, September 1 and if Lakeside also come away from King’s Lynn with nothing on the same night, the Robins will be play-off bound.

However, with a clutch of other possible permutations, team manager Rossiter wants his team to maintain tunnel vision.

“At the moment, we’re back on track and in a good position,” said the Robins boss.

“We’re really pleased. That was a big win for us up at King’s Lynn (on August 18) and that was a big win for us (against Poole).

“It takes a little bit of pressure off us but I don’t want to tell the boys that. I just want them to keep going and try to get a few more points.

“I think we’re in the driving seat a little bit – Lakeside lost (against Wolverhampton on Monday night).

“But I don’t really worry about it too much, unless somebody tells me we need at least one point from the last meeting or something like that, I don’t really look at it.

“I always say that our goal is the play-offs and we’re on track, and that’s all I can say. Nothing’s guaranteed until we’ve had 28 matches.”
