SWINDON Town head coach Luke Williams has vowed that his team will strive to get the boo boys back on side.

Some dissatisfied customers have opted to vocalise their displeasure following the final whistle of recent matches at the County Ground, including at the end of Tuesday’s 3-1 loss to an impressive Northampton Town outfit.

That defeat to the Cobblers was Town’s third home reverse on the bounce and their recent record on their own turf has been far from flattering – since the beginning of last season, Swindon have won 12 of the 28 matches they have played at the County Ground.

Luke Williams has been in charge of the latter 14 of that run of fixtures, leading his team to six home victories as head coach, and the Town chief says that he and his players are committed to handing their fans more cause to cheer rather than jeer.

“It’s demoralising but we expect that,” Williams told the local media.

“They come here to support us but they expect us to win games of football and if we don’t, they’re very cross with us and we understand that.

“We have the same feelings that they have.

“If we can boo ourselves, we will, so we understand and we will do everything now to put it right to please them.”

To that end, the Swindon boss says that his side will be knuckling down on the training pitch but that doesn’t necessarily mean that Town’s players will be needing their running shoes more than their football boots.

Williams said: “You have to address what’s going wrong so the players and the staff have to be honest and push each other, and not go hiding and sulk.

“We’re all ambitious and the only way forward is to address the things that you’re not doing well.

“The things you’re doing well will take care of themselves so yes, we have to work hard, we have to be sensible, because to work hard for no reason just as a punishment leads to people being injured and fatigued.

“We have to be smart and everybody needs to be very, very honest with themselves to push forward.”
