SWINDON Shock claimed their second win of the season at the weekend as they maintained their perfect start to National League (South West) Division Four.

Shock were light travellers to Oxford Stealers as they only had a total of six in their squad for the game.

David Colclough’s side made a slow start as they slipped to a 9-2 deficit early on, but they soon picked up the pace and found themselves 20 points ahead at the halfway stage.

After successfully managing the game, they claimed their second win with a 22-point victory as the final score read 65-43.

Spencer Wells was again the top scorer as he collected a total of 30 points for Colclough’s team, who are now second in the early-season standings.

Player-coach Colclough was delighted with how his team performed as they continue to chase promotion.

“It was amazing. We only travelled with six players this time as we had a few who were on holiday,” he said.

“We just looked really good. We started off down and we must have thought we had to pace ourselves so I don’t think we wanted to run with them straight away.

“But then we were forced to up the tempo and we realised that we were actually fitter than they were, so we just ran them to the ground.”

Wells again topped the scoring with 30 points to his name, Rafal Ciechacki also chipped in after he returned to the club after taking a year out.

“He’s been great, he just does it quietly we a basket here and a basket there, then you look up and you’re six points up,” added Colclough “Everybody played within themselves, we all played to our strengths and nobody tried to do anything outside of their capabilities.”

Next up for Shock is a double-header weekend against Southampton on Saturday followed by Division Three powerhouse Oxford Brookes on Sunday in the National Cup.
