DAVE Webb believes his Swindon Supermarine side broke new ground on Saturday with an empathic 5-0 rout on the road at Bridgwater Town.

Josh Parsons, Connor Waldon and Ash Taylor put Marine three goals to the good at half-time in Somerset before George Reid and Callum Parsons followed them onto the scoresheet in the second half.

The haul saw Marine take their tally to 10 goals in two Division One South & West games after a 5-1 landslide away at Wimborne Town on Tuesday night but Webb thinks the Bridgwater performance was the best he has seen.

“It was 5-0 and five different scorers, which is always nice. It shows that we have got goals throughout the team and it was just a fantastic display,” said Webb, whose side are comfortably positioned in the play-off places.

“We have had a hard week. We had a long trip on Tuesday to Wimborne and came away with a 5-1 win there and it was another long trip on Saturday but the players were magnificent.

“Credit to the players. They probably reached a level that we haven’t done all season in the first half, they did exceptionally well.

“We played some fantastic football and scored three good goals and in the second half we just did a professional job and scored two more to come away with a big win.

“Bridgwater were better in the second half, they improved but it was a great win and a great day for everyone.”

After such a dominant first-half, Marine could have been forgiven for taking their foot off the gas in the second period but Webb was pleased that they continued to go for the jugular right up to the final whistle.

“It’s hard to play at the same level for 90 minutes and we reached such a high one in the first 45,” said Webb.

“Bridgwater changed the way they played in the second half and made it a little bit more difficult for us to do the things we wanted to do but we were very professional and we kept a clean sheet, which is very important to us too.

“It’s really encouraging to see the way they played and it was a very vibrant coach coming home.”
