STEVE Robertson was left to lament a slow start to the second half as Swindon Town Ladies went down 2-0 at C&K Basildon Ladies on Sunday.

After a goalless first 45 minutes in Essex, Town were caught napping soon after the restart of this FA Women’s Premier League South Division clash.

Swindon were therefore left with no alternative but to chase an equaliser, which allowed Basildon to put the game to bed with a second goal in the closing stages.

Town boss Robertson said: “There was an opportunity there for us to get a point, or maybe even all three, but I don’t think we can come away thinking we were hard done by.

“We switched off for about 10 minutes at the start of the second half and they nicked a goal. They then got another one right at the end when we’d thrown everyone up front.

“We were in the game for the whole thing but we just never really got going in the second half.

“At 1-0 down, we had a half-chance; we only had about one or two half-chances throughout the whole game and there was nothing really clear-cut.

“It was one of those where I think if we’d come away with a draw, we would have been happy, but they nicked a goal to go in front 10 minutes into the second half when we were still in the changing rooms.”

Town had romped to a dominant 7-0 success away at Queens Park Rangers a week earlier but Robertson did not feel his side let their standards slip too much.

He said: “The opposition was obviously a bit better but I don’t think we dropped our level off too much, it was just that 10 minutes after half-time where we needed to come out a bit quicker.

“It was a pretty even game. We just need to make sure we concentrate for the whole game, not just 80 minutes.”
