DESPITE watching a contest that descended into an end-to-end slog-fest, Swindon Town head coach Luke Williams says that he ultimately believed believed that his side would take all three points at Bolton Wanderers this afternoon.

Town became only the second team to win at the Macron Stadium in League One this term and brought their own six-match winless run to an end with a 2-1 triumph in the North West.

After defender David Wheater’s volleyed opener from a corner, Ben Gladwin marked his third Swindon debut with the equaliser before Charlie Colkett, himself running out in a red shirt for the first time following his loan from Chelsea, crossed for Yaser Kasim to fire home the winner with a minute of normal time to go.

Williams was delighted with how his team battled back from a goal down to earn arguably their finest three points of the season to date.

“I think we kept calm after conceding, and I have to say that we conceded from a corner that was actually a goal-kick, but the boys stayed calm,” said the County Ground head coach, who also saw additional Chelsea loanees Islam Feruz and Fankaty Dabo make their debuts.

“There was probably a storm to weather immediately after the goal and they didn’t collapse, and of course, two moments of real quality put us back in front.

“It’s almost like having a playing inside the box when Ben gets it from 20 yards and people don’t press him.

“He’s very, very accurate – he’s got real power – so as soon as I saw the ball drop to him, I felt that it was a great opportunity for us to score.

“It was becoming basketball and I think there was a lot of heavy legs there, and it probably could have, at that point, gone either way, I think.

“It looked like the longer the game went on, the more likely we were to score.

“I don’t think it’s a coincidence that it’s coincided with new players coming to the club.

“We’ve got excellent players already at the club but sometimes, the balance can be off in a squad.”
