SCUNTHORPE United manager Graham Alexander expects no let-up in intensity from his side despite thier berth in the League One play-offs already being safely secured ahead of tomorrow’s game away at Swindon Town.

The Iron’s 3-1 win at home to Chesterfield on Easter Monday guaranteed them a top-six finish this season, while it also confirmed the Spireites’ relegation in the process.

However, there is still an outside chance of automatic promotion for Alexander’s side this term as they are only four points adrift of second-placed Bolton Wanderers, whose form has hit the skids with two games to go.

Although it would take a mammoth effort for Scunny to overhaul both Bolton and third-placed Fleetwood Town, Alexander is keen to continue his side’s recent good run so they can enter the play-offs in top form.

Only champions Sheffield United can boast a better sequence of recent results than the Iron in League One, with Scunthorpe heading to the County Ground this weekend in search of a fourth straight victory and fifth in their last six matches.

“We have to make sure our motivation is higher than any other opponent, individually and as a team,” said Alexander.

“Swindon is going to be a tough place to go and we’re going to have to be at our best to take the three points.

“We have to get that recovery in this week and then we have to make sure we’re ready for the next game. We don’t want to go there half-hearted and unprepared so we’ll do a lot of work this week.

“The players are doing superbly off the pitch and it’s coming to fruition in the games.

“We want to win these next two games – we want the points. I know I can make some changes and keep the strength of the team but it’s also about keeping momentum with the team selection.”
