SWINDON Town manager David Flitcroft has taken encouragement from his side showing they are capable of winning games in League Town a variety of ways.

Town turned in stylish attacking display to beat Stevenage at the County Ground last Saturday and should have been more convincing victors than the final 3-2 scoreline suggests.

Although Flitcroft was pleased by the high level his side were able to reach at the weekend – just as they had done in the recent 3-0 success at Luton Town – it did not provide him any more satisfaction than the manner in which the narrow away success at Carlisle United and Morecambe were ground out.

Town return to action tomorrow night when they travel to Forest Green Rovers and Flitcroft says more hard graft is required if they are to have a chance of a similar display and result at the New Lawn.

“I don’t get carried away with any performance because I see beauty with what we did at Morecambe and real beauty with what we did at Carlisle. Luton was a different performance,” said Flitcroft.

“You’ve got to have varying different levels of performance and strategies. It was a dominating performance for certain. I do believe you’ve got to impose yourself on a football match, whether in possession or out of possession.

“We’ll be working all week to have a positive result and a positive outcome but I can assure Swindon fans that this group of players will be working continuously all week to try and get a positive result anywhere we go and Friday won’t be anything different.”

Despite Town’s dominance against Stevenage, Flitcroft felt there were areas that his players could still improve upon in that performance, particularly in a defensive capacity.

“If you keep clean sheets then you actually win football matches so the players are disappointed that they haven’t done but we’ll keep working to that,” said Flitcroft.

“It’s that detail, that last third, stopping crosses, stopping shots, blocks, desire, commitment to the task, to the game plan and just ironing out the smallest mistake.”
