PREPARATIONS for Swindon Town’s next assignment in League Two have not altered despite the presence of the Sky Sports cameras this evening, according to manager David Flitcroft.

Tonight’s clash away at Forest Green Rovers – managed by former Town boss Mark Cooper – will be broadcast live on television, marking Swindon’s first screen airing since they beat Charlton Athletic 3-0 at home last November.

However, Flitcroft says that has absolutely no bearing on how his team will approach their trip to the New Lawn.

“We have not done anything differently, we have kept the same methodical approach to what we do,” said Flitcroft.

“The lads are buying into it more and more with the detail we are trying to get into the team.

“It’s just another game that we are preparing for 11-versus-11. We have done our homework and this team is prepared for the next challenge.

“The players have had a real focus and concentration to the week and it’s been a very good preparation for the game.”

Town’s most recent away trips have seen them take in a raucous atmosphere at Kenilworth Road against Luton Town and the impressive scale of Notts County’s Meadow Lane.

Tonight will be a much more intimate affair, with The New Lane limited to a capacity of just 5,000, but Flitcroft will demand the same level of performance no matter what the environment is.

“I have always said to the players to focus on the green and the task in hand and what we have worked on – you can’t let the background noise influence you,” said Flitcroft.

“I spoke to the players about Floyd Mayweather’s performance against Conor McGregor. You have millions of people watching, thousands in the stadium but Floyd Mayweather had a game plan, he knew he wanted to take him out in round 10 and he stuck to that game plan.

“After that fight, we had a classroom session on background noise and I think we were going to Luton afterwards and I said that it is a really tough place to go as the fans are on top of you and it’s a tight fixture.

“It’s the same when you play a Sky game or if you play at Wembley, you just have to focus on the green and the task at hand.”

Forest Green have endured a tough start to life in League Two, with the team promoted to the Football League for the first time at the end of last season after victory in the National League play-off final.

Rovers have collected just five points from eight league games but with two strikers over six-feet tall in their ranks in Christian Doidge and Shamir Mullings, Flitcroft says it is clear where the danger will come from.

“Any League Two team offer a real challenge and a real threat,” said Flitcroft.

“They have got two very big boys up front and there is a direct approach to what they do when those two play. They get it forward to them very early and play off that point.

“We have also seen with Mark’s team that when they open you up, they can play and move the ball quickly.”

Donal McDermott is free to return after serving a three-match ban for a sending off in the home defeat against Barnett on September 2, while both John Goddard and Kyle Knoyle are available for selection again after recovering from injury.
