DANNY Hylton scored a hat-trick as Luton thumped Cambridge 7-0 - the third time they have netted seven or more goals in a game at Kenilworth Road this season.

The win moved the Hatters up to second in Sky Bet League Two, with leaders Notts County easing to a 3-1 win at home to Cheltenham.

Dan Potts smashed in Luton's opener after 24 minutes and Olly Lee added a stunning second seven minutes later, collecting the ball in his own half, spotting goalkeeper David Forde off his line and lofting the ball into the net from almost 70 yards.

It was 3-0 four minutes later when Hylton tucked the ball into the bottom corner and Elliot Lee made it four with a superb first-time volley from Hylton's through ball before the break.

Hylton added a simple fifth with nine minutes left and Elliot Lee scored his second to make it 6-0 with another brilliant strike.

In-form Hylton completed his treble with the last kick of the game to take his tally for the season to 11 and make it 31 home goals for Luton this term.

At Meadow Lane, Jorge Grant fired a Jon Stead lay-off into the top corner on the half-hour to put Notts County ahead but Cheltenham levelled in emphatic fashion five minutes later when Carl Winchester let fly with a fierce drive from distance.

Grant's deflected free-kick restored the Magpies' lead - his 13th goal of the season - and Shaun Brisley's close-range finish shortly afterwards secured the points.

Accrington left it late to snatch a point in a 1-1 draw at home to Newport, Mallik Wilks firing in following a penalty box scramble after Frank Nouble had given the visitors the lead early in the second half.

Exeter were beaten 1-0 at Chesterfield, with Kristian Dennis scoring the only goal. The Spireites had Scott Wiseman sent off late on.

Craig Mackail-Smith scored a stunning 11-minute hat-trick as Wycombe romped to a 4-0 victory over Crawley.

Goals from Jodi Jones and Duckens Nazon earned Coventry a 2-1 win at Lincoln, who had gone in front through Matt Rhead, and a glancing header from veteran defender Clint Hill was enough to ensure Carlisle a 1-0 success at Grimsby.

Alex Iacovitti's close-range finish saw Forest Green come from behind twice to beat Crewe 3-2 and Kane Hemmings' solitary strike gave Mansfield a 1-0 win over Stevenage.

Mark McGhee's first game in charge of Barnet ended in defeat as Tom Pope's penalty - given after Dan Turner was brought down in the area - was enough for Port Vale to claim a 1-0 victory.

Colchester and Morecambe played out a goalless draw.
