MELKSHAM Town Reserves saw their lead at the top of the table trimmed to just two points as they slipped to only their second defeat of the Wiltshire League Premier Division campaign, while fellow challengers Cricklade Town saw off Devizes Town Reserves.

The only previous loss for Melksham came in the early stages of the season against Cricklade, but Shrewton United were their conquerors this time, Jesse Walters and Ronan Clancy turning the game on its head after the Reserves had led 1-0 at half-time.

Cricklade went second - with Wroughton inactive at the weekend - as they clinched a 4-1 success at home to Devizes’ second string, top scorer Devan Bryan scoring twice - his 21st and 22nd goals of the season - to lead the league’s hotshot standings. Craig Shand and Franco Michienzi also netted to wrap up the points.

Purton were also among the goals as they downed Westbury United Reserves 4-0. Debutant Imman Bains scored twice for the home side, with Jack Duckers and Chris Avery wrapping up the comfortable win.

Cameron MacKenzie’s late winner earned Pewsey Vale Development the points from a 2-1 victory against Bassett Bulldogs, who remained second from bottom. Harvey Rutherford handed Pewsey the lead before half-time but Adam Foskett equalised before MacKenzie’s intervention.

Ludgershall Sports were 6-2 winners at home against Corsham Town Reserves, Lewis Pickernell scoring twice and Nathan Strong, Paul Mowatt, Mike Owen and top scorer Dave Cotter adding the others.

Elsewhere, Marlborough Town earned a 3-2 home win over Malmesbury Victoria Development.

Bottom-of-the-league Bremhill delivered the cup goods again in the Fountain Trophies Senior KO competition.

Having disposed of Devizes Town in the Wiltshire Senior Cup, the youngsters clinched a 4-2 success at Royal Wootton Bassett Town Development to ensure another meeting with Devizes in the last eight.

Bassett’s strikes came from George Staten and Harrison Gough but Alex Pippard, Jayden Papy, Edidiong Essien and an own goal took Bremhill through.
