One to watch: Tom Pope

STRIKER Tom Pope has been the shining light for Port Vale in what has overall been a frustrating season so far for the Stoke side.

Pope has netted an impressive 16 goals from 37 appearances in all competitions, by far the Valiants’ main attacking threat as no other play has scored more than five times.

The 32-year-old is in his third stint at Vale Park, having first joined the club on loan from Rotherham in January 2011 before signing on a permanent basis that summer.

After two seasons at Bury - including under current Town boss David Flitcroft - between 2015 and 2017, Pope returned to Vale ahead of the current campaign and has proved a shrewd addition with a series of standout performances at the top of the pitch.

Key Battle: Marc Richards v Charlie Raglan

MARC Richards will fancy his chances of continuing his hot streak in front of goal for Swindon Town against Port Vale.

The 35-year-old has netted five times in seven games since joining the club last month.

Vale have kept just one clean sheet from seven matches in 2018 and shipped five goals in defeat to Cheltenham Town last time out.

Charlie Raglan joined on loan from Oxford United in January to booster Vale’s defensive ranks and will want to keep Richards quiet.
