SWINDON Town boss Phil Brown has seen a change in forward Scott Twine following his debut start for the first team against Yeovil last week.

Twine, 18, received a standing ovation when he was substituted from the field towards the end of last week’s 2-2 draw against the Glovers at the County Ground.

The teenager, who returned from a loan spell with National League South side Chippenham in March, was also singled out for his efforts by the manager in an otherwise disappointing team showing in Saturday's disappointing 2-1 defeat at Newport County.

Twine was also brought off early at Rodney Parade, but Brown insisted that was no reflection on the youngster's abilities.

"The only reason I took Scott Twine off was I thought he's had two games in such a short space of time, having made his (home) debut on Tuesday,'' said Brown.

"I just thought he was treading a little bit of water towards the end and that's the only reason I took Scotty Twine off.

"Scotty Twine has got a career ahead of him - there's no doubt about it. He's got a heart.

"Sometimes when you get a player, they think they are playing the the second division (League Two) because of their ability (but) it's nothing to do with it.

"Ability does take you a certain way in the game but attitude and certainly heart and desire, they take you a long way and that's what we've been talking about.''

Brown believes Twine has already benefitted from his two appearances in the last seven days, rating him as one of the most exciting prospects he has coached.

“I have seen a difference in him,'' added the manager.

“I met his parents before the (Yeovil) game, who were more nervous that he was. That’s a good sign because Scott was nice and relaxed for the game.

“I don’t think footballers can play unless they are relaxed.

“It gave him an insight into the pressures of the game and what he can actually stand up to and hopefully go onto have in terms of his career.

“Scott will win games for us, that’s the best compliment I can pay him.

“I think he has a big heart. It’s not the size of the body I’m looking at, it’s the size of the heart.

“He certainly looks comfortable around the first team players.

“I’m always interested in young players and who they’re hanging around with.

“If they’re comfortable with the seniors, that’s normally a sign they’re going to go on and have a good career.

“It’s not wrong if they’re still hanging around with teenagers, but they do have to be comfortable in the senior professional environment.”
