SWINDON racer Elliot Pinson clinched his maiden victory in the Dickies British Junior Supersport Class of the Bennets British Superbikes Championship at Brands Hatch at the weekend.

Following Pinson’s recent success in the Team Green Junior Cup, he entered as a wildcard into round two of the championship at Brands to measure himself against the country’s top level racers.

After familiarising himself with the new SymCirrus Motorsport Kawsaki Ninja 400 in free practice on Friday, Pinson went on to take pole position in qualifying by 0.254 seconds.

The first race on Saturday was a thrilling wheel-to-wheel battle between the top three riders, who broke away from the rest of the field.

Pinson took the lead on lap five of the 15-lap race and held it until the final drag to the line, where he was pipped into second place by just 0.07secs.

The second race was a similar affair, with the leading three bikes breaking away and battling hard for the lead.

On the penultimate lap, Pinson attempted an overtake for the lead but lost control of the front end of his bike and crashed out.

After overnight repairs, Pinson started the final race of the meeting from the middle of the front row, but a bad start meant he dropped 1.8secs behind the leader and into fourth place.

Steadily, he clawed back the deficit to take third place and then in a dramatic overtake on lap seven, Pinson claimed the lead.

He bravely held off his closest challengers throughout the rest of the race to claim a first victory in the British Junior Supersport Class by 0.045secs.

Pinson hopes to return to British Superbikes scene to build on this success but needs further financial support. Any local business or individuals who would like to sponsor him can contact pinson_k@yahoo.co.uk.
