HOCKEY: North Wilts girls blitz league leaders

NORTH Wilts 2nds shocked Wessex Division Three leaders City of Bath 3rds, thumping them 9-0.

City of Bath came into Saturday’s fixture top of the league but an extraordinary display of fluent attacking play and clinical finishing helped North Wilts inflict a crushing blow on their guests.

Knowing that anything less than a win would effectively end their challenge for fourth place, North Wilts rolled into gear from the off.

Wendy Falk and Becky Brett gave the hosts the perfect platform to push on for the win, both scoring as the home side went in two goals ahead at the interval.

North Wilts then produced a second half display that left City of Bath helpless.

Falk hit the net again before further strikes from Nichole Dhillon and Brett secured an emphatic victory.

North Wilts first team also won, beating Swindon 2nds 1-0 away from home.

Elsewhere, Swindon men drew 3-3 away at Robinsons A in Premier Division Two while local rivals Marlborough beat bottom club Yeovil 3-1.

In the Avon Division local rivals North Wilts and Wootton Bassett contested a close derby with Bassett just sneaking victory 4-3.

Swindon Ladies tasted victory in Premier Division One, beating Lansdown 3-0.

In Premier Division Two, Wootton Bassett beat Team Bath Buccs 2nds 2-0 and in the North Division, Marlborough drew 1-1 with City of Bath.
