Town get 'in the game'

TOWN have agreed a major sponsorship deal with computer games giant EA Sports, the Swindon Advertiser can exclusively reveal.

The club have been in discussions with the global gaming company for the last few months and will wear their logo on their shirts from the start of next season.

Swindon agreed a three-year deal with football magazine FourFourTwo last June and have now sealed a 12-month contract for an undisclosed sum with EA Sports - whose motto is ‘It’s in the game’ - as the firms work in partnership to support the County Ground outfit.

As Town’s contract with current kit suppliers Lotto comes to close the Advertiser understands that next year’s home strip, rumoured to be made by Adidas, will continue to have FourFourTwo’s logo across the chest, with EA Sports adorning the back of it.

However, the roles are expected to be reversed on the new away kit, with EA Sports taking prominence and FourFourTwo across the shoulders.

EA Sports’ senior UK PR manager, Shaun White, exclusively told the Advertiser: “EA Sports is excited to be working in partnership with FourFourTwo to co-sponsor Swindon Town Football Club.

“We both recognise the importance of engaging with clubs from all divisions and we look forward to developing a close relationship with the club, supporters and local community.”

A great bit of marketing that's for sure. It'll boost the sale of 'away' kits as well. Didn't EASports sponsor the Swindon Ice Lords ice hockey team when the were winning everything a number of years ago? Let's hope it has the same effect on Town!!

Cool! Perhaps a free copy of FIFA 2009 for every season ticket holder? Tee hee, seriously it is good that we have such well known brands as sponsors.

Plus we can wind up Oxford and Bristol fans by reminding them every time they buy FourFourTwo or any game made by EA they are putting money into STFC. Nice!

My initial thoughts on this were "could you ever imagine the previous board lining up a sponsorship like this?". I couldn't.

I'm very happy we now have proper business people, with decent connections involved with the club, loving the adidas rumour too. Would be great to have a decent kit manufacturer for a change. Wasn't it Don Revie who was a great believer in decently dressed players play smarter too - or something like that.

What a great coup this sounds like. I also like the fact that our strip next season could be made by adidas! Now all we need to do is get it right on the pitch and we'll b sorted!!

2 well known sponsers? we were barely used to one!

i know alot of european clubs have sponsers on the back as well, i dont like the look myself. start having footballers looking like F1 drivers. but i think our kit will stand out quite well with the addidas stripes down the arms. as scfc_tom said 'a coup'.

Indeed EA Sports were the sponsers of the Swindon Icelords who won the league title in record fashion, went to Manchester to play in the Play-Off Final as the underdogs and smashed Fyfe Flyers 5-0 - I remember that season well and was in Manchester when they won the whole sherbang!
Really excited seeing big company names invest in Swindon Town - will only increase our status and grow into a beautiful flower

Fantastic news. Makes sense for EA Sports to get close to Four Four Two mag. They can pimp Fifa all over the place.

Great deal, yes. However, only a one year deal. That means us, the fans will buy a new shirt AGAIN this summer, and AGAIN it will be out of date at the end of the season! Just hope the club lower the prices!

Yeah, I was at the NINEX for that game as well. Great day out. My Daughter used to play for the Top Cats for a couple of seasons.

As exciting as this is I don't think people have actually grasped how big a deal this is. Massive coup in my book and for the first time in a long while I must take my hat off to the new board and say well done. Could this be the start of great things?

We renewed our season tickets last week, before the rovers game, while being really worried about the possibility of relegation.

what a difference a week makes hey?

already i am really pleased we renewed, always had faith in wilson, and this latest sponsorship deal proves this board mean business in my eyes..

now to hang on to cox, get shot of bill power, and back danny to mount a push at the right nd of the table next season.

I thought that the FA brought a rule in a few years ago that said shirts had to last atlest 2 seasons?

It'd be fantastic to get a desent brand on the shirts though! Adidas did make our shirts in the 70's all be it for only a short while.
