ENGLAND A and Wiltshire star Miles Mackman shot a two-round total of seven under par to claim the men’s title at Broome Manor’s Club Championship, sponsored by Deacons of Old Town.
Mackman carded rounds of 68 and 67 for a 135 total to take the prize from Tom Ruddle.
Ruddle was leading on eight under with three holes to play, but finished two behind. Iain Blood was third on countback with 139.
Junior Mitchell Thomas shot the best nett score of the day, rounds of 67 and 66 off a nine handicap giving him a nett 133.
Sixteen-year-old junior vice-captain Yoshio Takeuchi’s gross score of 71 was enough for the junior crown, ahead of junior skipper Michael Cox (72).
The best nett score went to Ben Karn, who shot 77 off a 12 handicap for 65. as Nick Burch (73), Matthew Hibbs (74) and Tom Law (74) also scored well.
Sarah Carvell dominated the ladies event, rounds of 75 and 74 giving her a 149 total.
The runner-up was Theresa Healy with a gross 172, while eight-handicapper Carvell also took the nett prize with 67.
Mike Hart followed up his win in 2007 by taking the seniors prize with a gross 75. Ron Audrain took second place with a gross 78 while Denis LaTouche (80-17=63) was the nett winner.
THE team of Nigel Pegler, Mark Woollatt, Matthew Stevens and Dave Shepherd won South Cerney’s Midsummer Madness event with a nett score of 52.
The Texas Scramble event teed off in the form of a shotgun at 5am, the team of Jerry Homas -Green, Kevin Gray, Glyn Perrett and Alan Lee-Nash second.
Sayeed Kazemi clinched top prize in the Dr Joseph Priestly Jug competition at Bowood.
The nine-handicapper’s 81 (nett 72) was enough on countback from Dan Lee (76-4=72), with Daniel Brunt-Murphy third (85-12=73).
In Division Two, Jordan Bayliss (84-18=66) was a clear six shot winner from Chris Powell (98-26=72) and Glen Orr (90-17=73).
