THE Swindon ENL Wildcats extended their unbeaten run to eight games on Saturday as they recorded a 9-2 away win against the highly-rated Bristol Pitbulls.
With the reverse fixture earlier in the season ending 4-2 to the Wildcats, the Pitbulls were out for revenge. But Swindon set out their stall from the off and opened the scoring after 30 seconds as Jamie Newton picked up the puck low in the Bristol end, and combined with Ryan Burgess for Daniel Smith to tap in at the back post.
Two minutes later the Pitbulls hit back, but they were only level for 14 seconds as James Burnett found himself on a breakaway after the restart and fired past John Dibble.
After three goals in as many minutes the game calmed down, but three minutes before the end of period Burgess converted to give the Wildcats a 3-1 lead going into the second.
Swindon pushed on at the start of the second period, with Josh Oliver pulling the visitors further in front with an unassisted goal at 21:47.
From there on in the Wildcats did not look back and continued to extend their lead. Sam Feeney netted after a neat passing move at 28:36, before Newton also got on the scoresheet.
The Pitbulls hit back late in the second period through Thomas Evans but were unable to find another way past Jamie Thompson in the final period, as Swindon scored three unanswered goals.
Feeney scored his second at 47:03, unassisted, after skating through the Bristol defence and rounding Dibble. Newton was also on target, and Josh Oliver completed the scoring after 57:54 to seal an emphatic win.
