A FURIOUS Danny Wilson has warned his Town players he will not hesitate to wield the axe if they continue to gift opponents goals.
Swindon slumped to consecutive League One defeats when they went down 2-1 at Milton Keynes Dons last night, handing the hosts both their goals on a plate.
Aaron Wilbraham’s opener after just 65 seconds came when Sean Morrison was robbed of possession inside his own half, before an unmarked James Tunnicliffe was left with a simple header to double Dons’ advantage midway through the first period.
Although Danny Ward, pulled back an injury-time consolation for Town, boss Wilson ripped into his players for their defensive lapses and promised that if they don’t tighten up then they will be shipped out.
“You cannot give goals away as cheaply as we did tonight and expect to get something from the game,” he fumed.
“To start a game in the manner that we did – so loose and pretty-pretty – you’re going to concede goals.
“The players weren’t ready for the game, simple as that. We had talked about it, worked on it, talked about it again I don’t know how many times before the game.
“Then the ball comes first time to us at the back, we hesitate and try to play out.
“Just put the ball back in where it should be and put the pressure on. We didn’t, and that cost us a goal.
“Then we don’t pick up from a corner.
“The boy makes a run, it’s not important enough so we don’t go with him and he’s got an easy header.
“We drill it into them again, again and again, and that’s all we can do.
“And the bottom line is that if they don’t react to it then we’ll make personnel changes “We made a good fist of it in the second half, but were chasing the game. We’ve suffered because we gave two stupid goals away.”
