Easty goes back to school

TOWN midfielder Craig Easton swapped his boots for books last week when he headed back to school.

The 31-year-old visited Orchid Vale Primary School as part of World Book Day, where he read Terry Deary’s publication The Angry Aztecs to pupils, to highlight the importance of literature and reading both in and out of the classroom.

And the venture was a huge success, with Orchid Vale literacy co-ordinator Claire Kennedy admitting: “Having members of Swindon Town Football Club advocate reading in our school will not only boost the children’s reading, but will also strengthen links in the community.”

Shane Hewlett, football development officer for both Swindon Town Football in the Community and Swindon Borough Council, said: “It is always very satisfying to support worthwhile projects such as these.

“Education is very high on our agenda within Football in the Community, and the working relationship we have with Orchid Vale is first class.”

As well as his story-reading exploits, Easton also opened the school’s new play area and even took time to sample the equipment for himself.
