BREAKING NEWS: Darby to sign on loan

SWINDON Town will tomorrow finalise the loan capture of Stephen Darby.

The Liverpool full-back has agreed a deal which will see him stay at the County Ground until the end of the season.

Robins boss Danny Wilson has acted to bolster his defence after the recent back-to-back defeats to play-off contenders Bristol Rovers and MK Dons.

And Wilson announced to the media this afternoon a deal has been agreed with Liverpool regarding the temporary switch, whilst the player trained with the Town squad for the first time this morning.

Darby has impressive pedigree and has already tasted Premiership and Champions League action with Rafael Benitez's side this season.

The paperwork for the deal will be completed in the morning, and Darby will be included in Town's squad for Saturday's trip to Brighton.

Wilson said: “We’ve brought him in until the end of the season, which I am absolutely delighted with.

“He’s a quality player as you can imagine, coming from the Academy at Liverpool.

“Stephen has played first team football, knows the ropes and has been brought up in a very professional environment. We can only benefit from it.”

As trong looking 22 year old by the looks of it and much needed cover for Manks at right back...the following is courtesy of Wikipedia:
During 2007-08 season Darby was the captain of Liverpool's reserves team that ended the campaign as northern and national champions. His performances earned him praises from manager Gary Ablett calling him 'Mr. Consistency'.

His first appearance in a competitive match was as a substitute in Liverpool's League Cup fourth round defeat against Tottenham Hotspur in November 2008.

He made his Champions League debut against PSV Eindhoven on 9 December 2008, coming on as a substitute alongside fellow homegrown players Jay Spearing and Martin Kelly .

On July 5 2009, Stephen Darby secured a 3 year extension to his contract along with fellow Melwood graduate Jay Spearing.

He made his first competitive start for Liverpool against ACF Fiorentina in the UEFA Champions League on the 9 December 2009.

His second competitive start came against Reading F.C. in the F.A. Cup. The game finished 1-1. Darby was praised by Liverpool centre-back Jamie Carragher for his performance in the game.

Darby made his Premier League debut against Tottenham Hotspur F.C. on January 20 2010, coming on as a substitute in the 90th minute for Philipp Degen. And had a blinder.

On March 10, 2010, it was announced that Darby was set to be sent out to Swindon Town F.C. on loan.

Looks a good signing.

Should be an easy transition for him. He just has to pass it to the players in red with 3 white stripes on thier shirts. Should be like home from home

I am pleased that we have managed to get someone in quickly to cover for big Kev, and someone who sounds like they are very good, having played in Liverpool's first team in both the premiership and champions league! Very nice work DW!!

Now let's get a win on Saturday at the Withdean!! :)

About time as well & lets just hope for another couple & if they've got the same pedigree then even better.

Don't really ubderstand why Kevin has played in the last 2 games as it was clear he wasn't fit.

I think you are both right, Steve is not coming here to warm the bench, if he proves to be a good asset, then Amkwaah will have his work cut out to get the shirt back, which is good news for us, as much as he has improved from the Malpas era, when it comes to defending he still lacks consistency.

Hearing about Darby coming on board, our young keeper spending some time training at Liverpool, & the reported get-together of Messrs Fitton, Wilson & Benitez - I'm really encouraged. If we can forge a good relationship with such a fantastic club this will be a massive plus for us in the coming months/years.
They will know that we are a club that plays PROPER football (apart from the hoofing at Stadium:MK, but the dry, bumpy pitch dictated that), from the youths through to the 1st team, plus we are currently successfully producing talented youngsters regularly, and we have such an impressive set-up = LFC will be happy to lend us their Melwood graduates plus they will be keen to keep tabs on our production line.
Another massive tick & some extra tuck for our current owners & management.

Im glad we signed someone of this quality, but can anyone tell me why Nathan Thompson has not had a look in the last 2 games when kev was clearly not fit/well.

Agreed. Another building block in the recovery of town.

And if we can keep our relationships with Celtic and Bolton the opportunities for us to bring talent young players on loan, without having to play a signing on fee.

When we talk about cover it is obvious to most that big Kev has a recurring injury and needs a bit of time out....hence Darby is cover but he's playing!!
We need Kev back fit and well so can't be rushed, plus Darby can cover in a few other positions as well - great loan!!

I couldn't agree more, from all the reports a lot of people rave about him and he seems like he has real potential.

It is just so odd that DW hasn't even given him one chance, and as a result he looks like he's worn out KA main RB because, if i remember correctly, he hasn't rested him once? Just been brought off a couple of times.
--

Good sign though, just maybe we could have utilised what we already have?
