First show is big hit

THE Boxing Academy held its first amateur show last Saturday and the event saw two local winners.

Garvey Kelly and Millie Bailey, who are both from Swindon, triumphed in their bouts as part of a four-fight card.

The event was organised by Darren Woodwards, the head coach of the Boxing Academy’s amateur squad.

Originally 10 fights had been scheduled but due to pull-outs amongst other reasons, four contests took place.

Despite the reduced card, Woodwards’ assistant Paddy Fitzpatrick was delighted with how the event had gone.

“It was really, really nice after two and a half years of preparation to have our first amateur show,” said Fitzpatrick, who is also Jamie Cox’s trainer.

“I’d like to say thanks to everyone that’s been using the gym and supporting the amateurs.”

Fitzpatrick added that the next show at the Boxing Academy is planned to take place on May 22.
