RYAN Martin is just one win away from a place in another national boxing final.
The two-time national schoolboy champion is due to compete in the National Association of Children and Young Peoples’ semi-final at the Edge Leisure Centre in Haslemere this Sunday.
The 16-year-old Walcot fighter will encounter Michael Burrows from Epsom and Ewell ABC in a Class A, 70kg match.
Martin’s only ring action so far this season was a sensational 30-second knockout in Bristol last month, as other regional opponents have apparently been running scared of the Walcot powerhouse.
He said ahead of the fight: “I’m really looking forward to getting in the ring again.
“Although I haven’t boxed much this season, I’ve sparred over a hundred rounds in the gym against various opponents so I know I’m ready for the contest.”
His coach Harry Scott said Martin had a tough bout ahead of him. “A national semi-final is never going to be easy but I have a lot of faith in Ryan,” said Scott.
“He is very strong but he is also skilful and always gives a good account of himself.”
The boxing starts at 1pm on Sunday and spectators can pay at the door.
