FROM THE DUGOUT: Wilson's delight at Brighton win

TOWN boss Danny Wilson hailed one moment of quality from his side as they picked up a first win in four attempts away at Brighton yesterday.

Charlie Austin's second half effort was the only goal of the game and handed Swindon a major boost in their quest for a top-six finish.

And Wilson was delighted to come away with all three points from a difficult afternoon at the Withdean Stadium.

“It was a great win and I am delighted," he said.

“We really, really wanted to get three points here and our work ethic went into overload. It was absolutely fantastic for us.

“It was very difficult because the pitch was so bobbly, but the little pockets of football we did play we caused them problems.

“We didn't do enough of it, but one of the real bits of quality that we did put together, we ended up getting a goal from it, so that was a big bonus for us.

“They (Brighton) were bound to have a few chances, and the two wide boys (LuaLua and Bennett) caused us problems at times.

“They are good players and we knew they would, but thankfully Phil (Smith) has come to our rescue right at the death there.

“Defensively we kicked everything and headed everything like we had to when we were under real pressure at times."

Wilson was pleased with the performance of debutant Stephen Darby, who only signed on loan from Liverpool on Thursday.

The full-back looked steady against a tough opponent in Kazenga LuaLua, and Wilson believes Darby will only get better.

“It was always going to be difficult for Stephen," he said.

"There’s a massive difference between the reserves and what he played in out there.

“But I thought he came onto a game as he went along. Maybe he was a bit nervous early on in the first half, and didn't know anything about the players he was up against.

“It's an unknown entity for him, but this will put him in good stead for the rest of his time with us."

The boss also reserved praise for winger Mark Marshall, who came off the bench to play a key role in the win.

“Mark has got bundles of energy and enthusiasm and in fairness to him he hasn't had a big shot at playing games, simply because of the players we've got at the club," said Wilson.

“But when I looked at the shape of the team and how we had to go on, I thought the way the game was going he was perfect for us.

“He never gets disappointed. He will lose a ball, a pass, or doesn't get on the end of something, and won't get disappointed – he will just go again instead.

“A lot of lads can learn a lot from him in that respect.”

Under the circumstances at Brighton, this was an absolute brilliant result, and you have to praise Danny, Peter and the team for a welcome 3 more points.
It certainly goes some of the way to trying to forget last week's inexplicable shambles against Bristol Rovers.

Certainly does-how funny this game is. I posted that after the slave traders and MK losses, it would be just like us to go and beat brighton and southampton lol, well we are half way to that prediction being true.

So many seem to think that it is a lost cause on Tuesday, yet we have our very own prolific strikers, who may or may not be fit entirely come tuesday, we also have one of the best midfields, and we also have a quality back four.
We beat them at home, yes they are prolific, yes they have been thumping teams just lately, but they have also been held or beaten plenty of times this season so they are hardly invincible are they?

I think we may do well to get anything, but it is far from impossible.

Couldn't agree more avo. If Saints are on top of their game we will do well to get anything but there's always a chance we will raise our game and/or they'll have an off day. Anything can happen in football, just look at the way we dominated Rovers for 25 minutes and ended up losing 4-0.

And if we do nick a point or pull off an unexpected win just think of the confidence boost at such a critical stage of the season.

They may also be expecting us to roll over - keep telling Saints how good they are and how many they will win by and how we haven't got a chance....because they'll believe it.
After a few results this season I truly believe that we could come away with 3pts on Tuesday BUT!!...we'll need to be solid at the back, we have enough in the squad to do a real Italian job on them!
Come on you Reds!!
Lets shout a bit louder and for longer than of late on Tuesday please!

Sitting in D Rogers stand it seems to me that some supporters were just getting frustrated at the prospect of a second home defeat on the trot, and seeing favourite stiker Austin replaced resulted in a few boos. Its just a bit of frustration Danny, although not the best reaction from supporters,it is sort of understandable.
