'Monster result' for Wilson and Town

DANNY Wilson hailed an “immense” performance from his Town side as they continued their push for League One promotion with a 1-0 victory away at Southampton last night.
Charlie Austin’s second half goal proved to be the difference between the teams as Swindon completed the double over the Saints, and it was arguably their best display of the season to date.
A squad ravaged by injuries were resilient defensively, dominant in midfield and sharp up front, to leave the boss delighted at three vital points.
“That was immense,” said Wilson. “To come here, at this time of the season, and against a team in a run of form like Southampton are in, it was a monster, monster result for us.
“We knew that anything we got out of the game we would have to work hard for, and we did just that.
“Pockets of football we played at times were superb and the three boys in the middle of the park really got hold of the ball and made it difficult.
“We’ve had some good performances this season and it is difficult to say which is the best, but that was a superb win.
“We came here positive with three up top and that says in itself that we wanted to get something from the game.
“If we had sat back from the first minute then we would have got battered. We had to be offensive. We defended when we had to and took our chance when it came our way.”
The night’s only sour point came towards the end of the first half when Town’s already thread-bare squad suffered yet another injury.
Scott Cuthbert limped off to be replaced by Lecsinel Jean-Francois, and Wilson believes the centre-back could be sidelined for some time.
“We don’t know the extent of it at the moment in time, but we think he’s got a medial ligament strain which suggests he could be out for quite a few weeks,” explained the boss.
“That is about par for the course with the luck we’re having right now, but Lecsy came in and has done absolutely brilliant there.
“We’ve always known he was a left-sided centre-back but he hasn’t really had the chance to play there since coming in. He may do now.”

When you look at this division every one of the top 6 or 7 spots have had probs, look at Huddersfield got thumped 5-0. Also leeds/charlton are all in the same boat.
Its unfortunate ref the spate of injuries plus ferry's red card, as I said before they got nothing to fear.
One point Norwich are yet to hit a bad patch will Sat be the first?????
Good luck Town and what a result last night, as DW said a monster result,it's one we will remeber fr long time to come.I even got the old vhs tape of the 69 cup final out last night to remind me me of the type of club we support

Comments of us beating their second string at the County Ground and that the true measure of a team is goal difference?
So.... 1. Did we beat their first choice 11 at fortress St Mary's last night? Or was that their second string too? If it was their second string, if I were Pardue I would start playing their first choice 11 against Swindon.
2. Fair comment... Goal difference is the true measure of success in football, I guess at the end of the season the FA will award the Saints some more points to congratulate them for their goal tally.
Well done Town, we are all proud of you. True professionals. Also good luck to the Saints and the vast majority of their fanbase. You are somewhat let down by your friends that post to opposing team forums around 24 hours too early.

We are without doubt one of the better teams in League 1 and with some hard work, positive thinking and all round good football we can go up, automatically!!!
If not in the top two another victory at Wembley would be a great ending to the season.
So come on town fans now is the time to back the lads, and if we lose on Saturday, put that defeat in perspective, there will be ups and downs along the way but we can do this!!

No doubt you'll be the first one on here who will be moaning at him if someone scores against him...even if they've just got past everyone else in the team it must be HIS fault eh!!?
Well done Smithy a HUGE performance and the rest of the team were fantastic on a night on which even the most optimistic glass half full fans like me were doubting our chances given the injuries.
Lescinel looked every bit a centre back and with PACE!!
I can't find the adjectives that would do that performance justice...just WOW!!

Town came to St Mary's and played ok, we on the other looked nervous ??? and all over the place, ..... and coming to think about it - as soon as the players started to show their nervousness so did the fans - and we know what happens when that happens, just a shame we did'nt take our chances as i feel had we'd scored early on we would of settled, fair play to Town, closed us down quick and restricted our play, good luck for the rest of the season ... the chimp!

Just a suggestion for all of our home games after Saturday
£10 town end and for the Exeter
Game when we are on SKY £5 for town end and Stratton Bank so we can fill the place.
Our Team is doing us proud but we need to get more fans at the ground for the rest of the season.

May I say what a good commentary from Vic Morgan last night, but then Vic is a class act, and a true Swindon Town fan.
But also, the Co-Commentator Alan McLoughlin was also very, very good, and showed what a professional he has been in the past, and still is.
As an arch critic of Phil Smith along with quite a few others, may I say what a superb game he played last night, and surely was the "Man of the Match".
Mark Marshall has also proved most people wrong with his last two games, and Lecsinel Jean-Francois sounds as though he also played the proverbial "Blinder".
Well Done Danny, and Well Done Swindon Town F.C.

Yes still buzzing from last night and certainly a pleasure to give some Southampton fans some stick on their forum after they were lording it on ours yesterday. And boy there were a few very sore losers on the Southern Echo forum. But rather nicely many Saints fans complemented Danny and the Town for the way we battled and raised our game after the break and even outplayed them for long spells. Oh the ups and downs of being a Town fan one moment we get beaten 4-0 at home then next we get two fantastic away wins. These last two games for me have been immense considering the injuries and there are some players that have stepped up to the plate that deserve very special praise, Marshall, Smith and now Lesci and even the young Liverpool lad. Wow can't wait for Norwich but little concerned how many players we have left.

We will also need huge home support for all the remaining games - not just Norwich - including if things don't always go our way. I am still trying to get over the negativity coming from two very loud gits who were sat near me in the Rovers match. Mind you, several people around them did also give them some back. Let's stick together and SUPPORT THE TEAM.

It's brilliant to see the back-up players coming in and giving brilliant performances. Smith, Lescinel and Marshall gave 110% last night and they proved what Danny has been saying all along, that our back-up players ARE good enough. Austin is having a brilliant spell as a lone forward, and with Marshall and Ward doing so well on the wings yesterday supporting Charlie, it could be hard for Paynter to get back in the side when he's fit again. It's a brilliant time to be a Town fan at the moment, and for me to be confident of a victory against Norwich, despite us having so many players out injured shows the confidence amongst the fans and the club in general right now. Up the Town!

I had the pleasure of sitting with Charlie's Mum and Auntie last night what lovely ladies....you can see why Charlie is so level headed and such a genuinly nice person he is. Although I didn't think it possible the end of the game the constant smile his Mum wears was even bigger than when the game started.
She and our dearly beloved Mr Fitton shared a huge smiling thumbs up and no words were needed!!
I'm sure Andrew will work every bit as hard as the team worked last night to keep him with us for next season.
WOW! WOW! WOW! Our players just keep on digging deeper...proving they're as good as anyone in this league (....hate to say it...possible with the exception of Norwich as an overall unit).

Worked out how your team is going to beat Rochdale next season? I don't blame you for being bitter, if I had to go to the souless hell you call a ground every week. Have you accepted that you've been outplayed twice by a far superior team or still deluding yourself that your team was sleepy/pitch was a bit wet/ref was pompey fan?

If you don’t score when you are on top you usually don’t win. But sometimes you just have to credit the other team. What a turn round from half time – you played us of the park with good ball to feet, on the ground football using the width of the park.. Couldn’t believe what I was seeing – we even reverted to long balls – and aimless inaccurate ones at that. We also got very narrow which played into your hands.
Sorry if some of our people were on here shouting their mouths off. We have our fair share of pratts.
Good luck for the rest of the season. Afer the tough times you have had, you deserve it. And your second half perfromance was the best I have seen at St Marys this season.

Good luck for the rest of the season. Afer the tough times you have had, you deserve it. And your second half perfromance was the best I have seen at St Marys this season.

For the benefit of 2 or 3 posters. Oi Den! is right. the speech marks around 'dodgy' keeper was a sarcastic reference to all the people who have slagged off Smith throughout this season. I'll admit I was not too sure about him, but if we needed any convincing then he has surely provided it in these two momentous games. Let's not slip back into slagging each other off - save that for the opposition, like managers who talk as if we are country bumpkins. In fact even if we are country bumpkins, the league table doesn't lie!
Nice of 1 or 2 of theirs to come on here and tell it like it was, as for St David, he was getting a slating on his own site yesterday so says it all really.

.....I think a lot of us are sensitive to the 'few' who keep slagging our own players off with no real reason or at the first sign of a mistake.
MK had heightened this as there was booing on the pitch and sarcastic chanting early in the game. I was as disappointed in Pericard's work rate as anyone but would never boo a Town player on the pitch as it is totally out of order and just transfers to the rest of the team.
It was also sad to see how few people stayed to clap the players off the pitch at the Bristol and MK games - I don't think they played badly v B.Rovers and worked their socks off in the second half at MK.
Apologies again for the mis-read! (but I will have a go at anyone slagging the team off)
