SWINDON TOWN: Fitness boost for Cuthbert

SCOTT Cuthbert’s knee injury is not as bad as first feared, with the centre-back hopeful of being fit for Town’s trip to Hartlepool next weekend.

The 22-year-old was forced off midway through the first half of Swindon’s win at Southampton on Tuesday night, with initial fears suggesting it may have been medial ligament damage which could have ruled him out for a number of weeks.

But Cuthbert underwent an MRI scan on his knee yesterday lunchtime, and the club’s medical staff believe it may just be badly bruised.

“Hopefully the results of the scan are not too bad,” he told the Advertiser yesterday.

“I’ve got to try and keep it straight, so it’s stiffened up a bit. It is still a bit sore and there is bruising there because I took a stud to it.

“If the scan comes back okay then hopefully I could be back next week.

“Obviously it all depends on the results, but I’m fairly positive and so are the medical team here that if it all settles down then I could be back pretty soon.”

Cuthbert has been a rock at the heart of the Town defence this season, playing a big role in their position in the top six.

And the former Celtic man is determined to be back in action as soon as possible, as the campaign nears an exciting conclusion.

“It’s a bit of a nightmare at this stage of the season,” he said.

“We’ve got some massive, important games coming up and I want to be a part of it.

“Having to go off on Tuesday was gutting. I tried my best to carry on, but it just wasn’t going to happen.

“That’s not like me at all to go off. I don’t like to even miss a training session or anything like that. I love being involved in football, so the last thing I want to do is to be sat out injured.”

What a fantastic player this guy is and what a fantastic attitude to have.

We all really really hope the outcome is as good as reported here, we need scott cuthbert in the team for the end of season push, my player of the season so far, absolutely solid guy.

Thats more great news. Cuthbert has been superb this season like many of the players have. Its going to be the toughest job for years to pick Player of the Year this season.

Cuthbert for me has actually been better than Greer this season and certainly the best central defender at the club with no disrespect to Gordon. Huge miss he will be but hopefully not out for too long and sounds hopeful that its not too bad an injury which we all feared.
Lesci will probably play against Norwich and just needs to concentrate for 90+ minutes. Have not heard how Morrison is doing with his groin injury.

Having Lesci back in his 'proper' position will be good cover for Scott and I'd prefer he took it easy until after the Hartlepool game as we want him 100% fit for the run in.
Think you're right that he has been better than Greer on the whole but Greer has raised his game just of late.

Come on lads, Gordon Greer is brilliant and needs no slight criticisms at all.
These friendly "digs" at players seems to start a "snowball effect" on these forums, and ends up like the abuse given to the recently departed Hasney Aljofree.
But I do agree that Scott Cuthbert is a credit to Swindon Town F.C.

I doubt there was any intention other than to say that cuthbert has been better this season than greer.

Greer has also been awesome though, just scotty is definitely the best cb we have.

Don't know what anyone else thinks, but I would rather have Lesc than Morrison untill Scott is fit again.Just hope it's not to long before Scott is back, but don't want to see him rushing back cos of his enthusiasm only to injure himself and be out for longer .Along with Ferry player of the season.

I was at the Southampton match the other night (unfortunately in the home end as my 13 Yr Old Step Brother lives in Southampton) and thought Lesc played really well - None of his indecision or positional problems that have been prevalent on occasions this season - I thought he looked solid and composed! I would prefer him to play rather than Morrison! One of the chaps I was sat next to in the home end at Southampton thought town played well and much better than Leeds did against them the previous weekend!

Mint!

No one is criticizing at all. I feel that Greer is a top defender and Cuthbert has been just that bit better over the season so far and its just my opinion.
Both CB's are a credit to the club and there was certainly no digs aimed at Greer.
