FULL TIME: Town 1 Norwich 1

GORDON Greer's injury-time header earned a point for Town as they drew 1-1 with League One leaders Norwich at the County Ground.

The skipper connected with Alan Sheehan's corner deep into stoppage time to earn a deserved point for the home side when it looked like they were heading for defeat.

Earlier, prolific Norwich front man Grant Holt had headed home his 28th goal of the season, and that looked to be enough to earn the Canaries yet another victory.

But Town kept pressing, and when Forster made a superb save to deny Jonathan Douglas late on, Greer headed in the resulting corner.

Here are the key moments from today's game:

One min: Darel Russell finds Norwich dangerman Wes Hoolahan in space, and he fires an early shot wide of the Town goal from 30 yards.

17 mins: Charlie Austin sets Frank Nouble racing away and he runs clear of Michael Nelson, only to be brought down by the centre-back right on the edge of the area. However, referee Scott Mathieson remarkably waves away Town's protests.

20 mins: Simon Lappin delivers a free-kick from wide on the left which Nelson meets, but sends his header straight at Swindon keeper Phil Smith.

24 mins: Lappin's deep corner is only half cleared by Alan Sheehan, and Darel Russell flashes the loose ball well over on the volley.

27 mins: Norwich are piling on the pressure and a cross from full-back Michael Rose just evades the head of Chris Martin and bounces agonisingly the wrong side of the upright, with Smith beaten.

34 mins: Chris Martin collects a diagonal ball, cuts in from the right and drags a right-footed shot wide of the near post.

Town are looking comfortable in possession, but are yet to even have a shot and Norwich are much more dangerous in the final third.

40 mins: Danny Ward receives the ball 30 yards out with time and space. The midfielder steps forward and unleashes a dipping strike which Canaries keeper Fraser Forster has to tip over.

From the resulting corner, Gordon Greer connects but sees his header blocked by the visiting defence.

49 mins: Stephen Darby beats Grant Holt to a header in the middle of the park and the ball drops nicely for Ward.

He rides a couple of challenges and strikes a low effort goalwards, which Forster does well to keep hold of.

52 mins (GOAL 0-1 Holt): A superb team move from Norwich sees the visitors break the deadlock.

Lappin's neat ball down the line finds Michael Rose, and with runners creating space for him he has plenty of time and space out on the left.

The full-back delivers an inch-perfect cross right into the heart of the six-yard box, where Grant Holt beats Lecsinel Jean-Francois to head home his 28th goal of the season.

58 mins: Alan Sheehan curls a 30-yard free kick well off target from a promising position.

60 mins: Greer is adjudged to have fouled Chris Martin 25 yards out in a central position, and the Norwich striker steps up to curl the free-kick over the wall and against the top of the crossbar.

It's a narrow escape, with Phil Smith completely beaten.

66 mins: Ward does well down the left before firing a low ball in to the feet of Charlie Austin. The front man turns and drils a shot which Forster has to get down to stop.

75 mins: Having already brought on Mark Marshall and Michael Timlin, Town manager Danny Wilson makes his third and final change, introducing Vincent Pericard for Charlie Austin.

However, the substitution is met by a chorus of boos, and Wilson seems to turn round and give the Arkell's Stand a piece of his mind.

76 mins: Pericard flicks on a ball into the box and it drops for Ward at the far post.

However, the bounce on the wet surface just takes it away from the wide man and he is unable to get a good contact on it, bobbling a shot straight at Forster.

84 mins: Sheehan gives away possession from a sloppy free-kick on the half way line. Norwich string four passes together on the break, with substitute Stephen Elliott eventually heading Korey Smith's cross over from close range.

90 mins: Pericard is fouled by Nelson 30 yards out. This time Sheehan's free-kick is much better as he forces Forster into a parried save, with Lecsinel Jean-Francois unable to connect on the rebound.

90 mins: Jonathan Douglas connects from 20 yards with a superb volley which is heading for the top corner until the intervention of Forster's fingertips, putting the ball out for a corner. It's a stunning save.

90 mins (GOAL 1-1 Greer): From the resulting Sheehan corner, Greer escapes his marker to get free at the far post and thunders a header into the back of the net. The County Ground errupts at what could be a huge point.

TOWN (4-4-2): Phil Smith; Stephen Darby, Gordon Greer (c), Lecsinel Jean-Francois, Alan Sheehan; Jon-Paul McGovern, Craig Easton (Michael Timlin 68), Jonathan Douglas, Danny Ward; Frank Nouble (Mark Marshall 68), Charlie Austin (Vincent Pericard 75)

A draw was a fair result. Neither team really created many clear cut chances. Norwich worked hard and closed us down well.

Nouble is Pericard mark 2. Hard for him as he's barely been with the squad, but he ran around a lot. Pericard had a big impact when he came on.

P!ss poor home crowd again, only 9200 to see us see top of the league when we're 4th? What can the club do to get the supporters in.

The 9200 was the total number of Town fans as they state the exact amount of away fans when announcing the attendance.

Sadly I couldn't make it today. Good result with the number of players out. Can someone explain to me about the booing of Wilson. If this happened what are the idiots thinking of? He is the best manager we've had in years. On a small budget he's got us right up there with a good team.

If it was as bad as the adver suggests. Jog on to the mirror and have a long hard look at yourselfs.

Just back from the game. A thoroughly deserved point. MoM was Ward - who ran himself to the ground. Great Captain's performance from Greer. MoM for Norwich was the referee who was a total disgrace. Nevetheless, we came through albeit in the 90th minute! So my player analysis is..

Smith...good shot stopper but MUST command the box more. If he is unsure of catching the ball, then punch it!. Darby...getting better every game and showed some attacking flair today. Greer - back to his best. Lescinel..looked very accomplished at centreback plus adds a lot of pace to our defence. Sheehan - pretty solid game but some poor ball distribution. Douglas - did well but obviously missed Ferry with those short raking passes. JP - 110% effort and still my player of the season (excl. Charlie). Easton - did what was asked of him and did it well. Ward - exceptional performance and the lad could barely walk at the final whistle thru effort. Austin - lots of effort but little came off for him. Misses Paynter. Nouble - lad has talent but I think he was surprised at the pace of the game. Needs to put in more effort. Subs........Marshall - fresh legs with little or no effect. Annoyingly kept drifting infield instead of providing much needed width. Pericard - added a bit of weight up front but can't see him scoring. Timlin - filled in nicely for Easton and enabled Dougles to move forward more.

Anyways, am well pleased with a point but feel with a little luck, we should have taken all 3. Norwich are a solid side but will need to buy new players if they want to compete in the Championship.

You Redzzzzzzzz!

I felt that today was a fantastic advert for football in this division with two high quality teams battling it out for supremacy. Yes it lacked goals and strikes on goal but I thought this game was pure class. Don,t know how you can say not the best of games as there were two top quality sides out there and the football was fit for championship. That's my opinion anyway and felt a draw was the right result. Ref was Useless as normal letting Norwich get away with murder and denied Town a stonewall penalty when Nouble was hacked down in the box. Captain Greer was immense again and what a fabulous goal at the death. My MOM was Darby who was fantastic but would also agree that Ward was superb. Brilliant point from the lads against the best side in the division.

What a finish, a goal at the death for the Town. It felt like a win after the assault we mounted on their goal at the end.

Gordon Greer was already my man of the match and he finished a real captains performance with that goal, just brilliant.

What was all the booing and leaving 10 mins before the end about?
Those that did go early, you missed a brilliant finish.

Some guy behind me spent the whole game moaning and not once did he shout or cheer the lads on. He got a right mouthful in the end by some guys near him.

If 4th in the table and battling performances against the top team is not enough to please some people and get them shouting support, then I really don't know what can be done.

As for me, never leave early, keep shouting to support the lads and come on you Reds!!

I really cannot believe some of the comments here and I wonder what game some of you thought you were at.

point 1 - the crowd, 9200 home fans on a p1ss poor day weather wise, is a great effort and the 2nd home game in a row where we have had this many home fans, what more do you want??????????

point 2 - p1ss poor game? Really? From where I was sat I thought it was an excellent game, made up of 2 teams that were passionate yet fair, no dirty tactics, and determined to play football for the large part, who shared the spoils at the nend of the game which was the fair result.

Norwich are undoubtedly going to win this league, and to have only ever lost to them by a single goal margin in any of our 3 fixtures against them this season is a credible marker as to where we are as a club currently.

We have a fantaastic shout at promotion through the play-offs, but if it is not achieved this season then we have still come on a million miles from recent seasons and that should not be forgotten.

point 3 - the referee, come on ffs, he was on the ball first half, one of the best this season when he could have easily knee-jerked like so many before him and that would have cost us, especially with nouble's challenge on their right back.
2nd half he lost the plot a little, and through biased stfc glasses, he could have been a bit more generous with some of his decisions, especially their cuddling of pericard in their box, bless them.

overall, a thoroughly entertaining match, with a good atmosphere, with 9 chances to each team, with us having the larger share of posession and shots on target which you would expect from the home team. A point apiece a fair result.

Onwards and upwards, Norwich are up, end of, we have a great chance, that'll do me.....

One gripe I do have from today was being told by a steward to sit down more as I was restricting the view of the lard 4ss behind me, said lard 4ss did not have the bottle to tap me on the shoulder and ask me to be more considerate(and at this point i would like to state that for tha majority of the game i am seated, i just get excited at times, forgive me!!) so he decided reporting me to a steward was the only option, before going to stand at the back of the DR stand!!, all this whilst nearly 3000 norwich fans plus all those in the town end were standing merrily watching the game.......

ITS FOOTBALL PEOPLE, get a grip.

I have not and will never, apologise for being passionate about my team, which involves me being on my feet for periods in the game.

Lesci looks a very good CB and I was pleased with what I saw in Darby. Also good to see the game of tactics played. I have wanted to see how Danny played coming forward from midfield. Not disappointed. Charlie is a joy to watch he has such a strong all round game now. Yet another great match. If you are reading this but not going, when you can, get down there next game. Greer was superb today, probably his best performance at home this season. Justice was served with his header hitting the back of the net. Norwich were well organised and very physical, hence the reason for bringing on Perricard for Austin. I have questioned the Frenchmans performances in previous posts, but today he showed why Mr Wilson signed him. Couldn't believe the boos from certain dullards amongst the home fans. If you're not going to support our team then stay away! Charlie was getting no change from their back four at all, constantly being shoved off the ball. that was why he was replaced.

well said avo, agree with everything u said. Aldo thought mom was easily Greer even before he scored. I have seen a lot worse refs in my days as well. OK, except he missed what i thought was a pen but try reffing yourselves and see if you spot every infringement. Overall i thought he had an ok game. Don't know why DW persists with Marshall, why not give Ritchie a start, he has looked good the couple of times i've seen him come on, and i think he has more of a football brain. Marshall doesn't seem to know where to go or what to do when he has the ball. Also thought Nouble had a decnt game for his first. Agree with others that Pericard is not quite what we need. Thought the fans were great today, as they were at Southampton on Tuesday. I still think we can nick auto if you look at how many teams at the top have to play each other. Anyway, onwards and upwards

i think the booing was more of frustration at austin being taken off for pericard which a large majority are not convinced of yet. i must admit i was disapointed with the substitution but i did not boo.i dont think there was any more in it or people saying wilson didnt know what he was doing.i think people are reading too much into it. get over it.point was fair result.it was a very good game considering lack of chances for both teams.defences were both on top and some of the passing was good at times.it is a shame we dont shoot much from distance but certainly cant moan at a point.it was a game we could have won but also the same for norwich.all did well today so no stand out player for me.i also thought crowd was disapointing 9,200 swindon fans.like the board said in the programme in a town of close to 200,000 people with many more in nearby areas we need to get bigger crowds. what more can the club do? our prices are fair for the division but even if we charged a tenner would we realy get 15,000 every week? i think not.....swindon doesnt care about football and thats it.i am not attacking any fan that cant come or afford to take their family.i understand because my brother cant afford to go every week and i take his 2 boys because as under 10's are free.football is over priced but what is a realistic ticket price for football? or was it realy because of the bad weather?!!!

The stupid booing was because of Danny's decision to sub. Charlie Austin. Charlie got a tongue-lashing from Danny too for shaking his head as he came off. Poor lad was as disappointed as the crowd for that decision but Danny's the boss and no complaints from me.
I hope an official complaint is made about the poor refereeing today, the ref nearly lost control today.

I think the problem is the significant amount of plastic fans who support "top 4 teams", they support their teams passionately from the armchair!

Although have to say on the STFC website a while back it mentioned that 25% of season tickets sold were from first timers. Very positive news, I think if we got promoted then expecting 10k average wouldn't be unrealistic.

Yes I for one was very dissapointed in Austin coming off especially as we needed a goal from somewhere, but did not boo and do agree with a couple of post in that Charlie was tiring slightly and getting little change from the thugs defending for Norwich. I say thugs because the ref allowed far too much from their heavy challenges especially on Charlie so can see why Danny chose to Bring on Pericard who actually did quite well when coming on and held the ball up well. Booing is pathetic behaviour from fans and its hard to believe we are on the same side. You fans need to lighten up and get real I stated this a few games ago on this forum but are we not all fighting for the same cause and on the same side. Players, managers, board members, and us the fans are on the same side and the enemy is the other six clubs trying to take away our promotion for christ sake.Agree or disagree with what Danny does it is all for the sake of trying to get out of this league and we are all in this together as a TEAM and Danny has asked for our support so how crazy is it to support Danny and the players by booing, total madness. We are on the verge of a fantastic season so we all should give our total support and just hope that we are there at the end of the season, but please if you want to boo your own manager and players then please stay away.
Great game today and fabulous advert for this division.

I was very dissapointed that we needed a goal & Danny decided to take off the man whose scored the winner in the last 2 matches. It still was the wrong decision for me but it's all about opinions & it's Danny's that count & not mine.
It was a decent game & both teams cancelled each other out at times which is to be expected.
Danny Ward was Man of the Match & our only real goal threat apart from the goal.
Only complaint from me is why we still keep messing around with corners instead of putting it in the box.

Lets get realistic! It was another good crowd and we have recently taken 4 points off Southampton and Norwich to keep the dream alive. Norwich will win this league easily as by far the best organised side I have seen. They clearly have a leader in the lad Holt. We aint far behind though in my opinion and to reach the playoffs and all that excitement would be wonderful for the club and town. Who knows a wonderful trip to wembley could be our reward. Keep the Faith!

Not long back from the game, can only assume booing was for the decision to take Charlie off rather than anything else.It would have been a real injustice had we lost, but I was beginning to get a bad feeling it wasn't going to happen for us.Thought we should have had a couple of penalties, ref was strangely reluctant to award us blatant free kicks didn't think much of him.I felt we lacked a little bit of balance in mid field today, don't really understand why Easton played on the left side of midfield whilst Ward played a more central role having played so well on the left for us recently.Think we need to reserve judgement onboth Pericard, and Nouble who has only been with us a day or two,but showed some promising touches, was surprised to see him start, expected to keep the same sort of set up as Tuesday night.Still we didn't play badly and certainly deserved at least a point.

Great result against arguably best squad in the division who had won their last four away matches. Compare this to a Colchester side who are in freefall at the moment and a Charlton side who failed to beat the Pikey's at home. What if anything have we got to complain about? Just hope that Millwall take Leeds to the cleaners on Monday. Then it’s down to us to get the results we need to chase them down. I know it may be naive to say this but think Col-U are out of race for second now and Charlton look low on confidence to mount a consistent run of wins. Think it’s between us Millwall and Leeds for that second spot.

I stayed for several months in the same hotel as Danny Wilson in 1984, when he was first played for Brighton. {in the Courtlands Hotel, Brighton} He was a very decent guy 25 years ago and clearly still is now, get off his back and give him a break please!! Some of you with such negative comments fail to realise that Swindon could really still get automatic promotion, wise up and back off and support The Town!!

Not sure if you were in the Arkells stand but that was probably the guy I lost patience with after a whole season of moaning and groaning ruining the game for everyone around him - everyone then had a go verbally.

WHAT IS THIS BOOING APLAYER ONTO THE PITCH!!?? Who the hell are these muppets who turn up & boo DW's decision and/or Pericard - that was REALLY going to help him get us a goal back eh!!?

Good job the team stuck to their task...why is it only Swindon can boo players when we're flying high!!?
....makes me bloomin sick to the pits

People that boo are like kids at a pantomime. Honestly, you should listen to yourselves. I love football but sometimes football fans are embarrassing.

people were booing the substitution because charlie austin is more of a goal threat than vincent pericard! but i can understand why he done it,charlie did not get much of a look in today against those big defenders and pericard is a big man! still not convinced by pericards desire to be here though but our own fans booing the manager is ridiculous at this stage of the seasion, anyway i thought the new striker needs games for his fitness but definately has ability and a bit of class about him and looks a good signing, greer wears his heart on his sleeve and deserved that goal today i thought norwich looked just an average team today although they must have some ability cause they are top of the league!not the best of games for mcgovern today which was dissapointing but on the whole it was a good point and keeps us in touch for second spot! i think swindon can get that second spot and avoid the play-offs!i will be interested to see who the manager brings in this week as i still think he is one or two players short! no mcnamee for norwich which says it all really as he is only there for the wages!

How nice is it that it was us that got the late goal for once? Keeps the smile from Tuesday. I thought the team did very well today despite 5 first teamers out and one in the team who only came yesterday morning. It was also clear that the efforts of Brighton and Southampton had taken their toll on the team. JPM and Dougie esp looked really tired and not their usual selves (if any players ever deserve to be tired its those boys). After MK if we'd been offered 7 points from the next 3 games I don't think any fan would have turned it down. In the end I think we were a bit unlucky not to get 9 but i'm not going to get greedy. My MOM was Lecs. He has taken a lot of stick at times (sometimes deserved) but he has been fantastic this week and showed why DW rates him. Centre back appears to be his strength. A shame to loose his cross though because it can be lethal. As for booing DW, I think it was more a knee jerk groan than a concerted boo at seeing Charlie leave when we were chasing a goal. It seemed to stop quite quickly and Pericard did a good job. Surely no one has a real problem with DW do they? If you do feel free to explain why.

My first season back at the CG after an 8 year absence - and boy am I enjoying it. Agree that the booing was probably out of frustration at Charlie going off, but it made sense. Captain Marvellous my man of the match (and season probably !). Roll on Hartlepool. You Redzzzzzzzzzzzzz

In the end, this was a great result for us.If we had lost this game, our confidence would have nose-dived,at a vital time of the season.

Would i be correct in saying a draw between Leeds and Millwall would be the best possible result for us ?.

That was a good effort and result.Seen the FL show last night what an equalizer nice to have the boot on the other foot for a change.
We are the dark hoses of this Division make no bones about that. Steve aldridge gave us a good mention last night, all they can do is give there best we can ask for no more, Play offs I feel they will make it, as to auto who know's anyways do wish them well and sppedy recovery to the injured players.
One last point nice to see the number 2 goali with confidence again.

GOOD LUCK NICE WEEK

Have to say a 1-1 draw for Leeds and Millwall would suit best, certainly don't want a Leeds win although they have Norwich (a) and Swindon (h) in the next 2 games.

Am so disappointed in the Football League show, biggest game in league one and it didn't show our penalty appeals, their goalies class 1 save or Norwich hitting the bar - it turned it the Chamionship show + a few goals. poor show BBC!
Monday Night show should be better

Great performance lads! I do not agree with the idiots booing. I know pericard has not scored but he can hold the ball up and cause different problems. Dw gave em something else to think about and it worked. Well done. C'mon the mighty reds

heard the game on the internet, and thought it was a fantastic point, against a team who are flying, i honestly believe we can achieve the secaond spot as town are playing good, and i can understand the crowds frustration about austin being taken off, but the booing isnt the answer, wilson as done a fantastic job while he as been here, and if the booing dosent stop he will be doing it somewhere else, so please fans give him some space and let him do the job he is here to do and get us promoted, listening to this booing on the radio isnt nice to hear, and it must affect danny and the team,so lets nip it in the bud and just cheer the town all the way.

All the Town fans are Charlie lovers and it was a kneejerk reaction when some fans booed when DW took him off. Danny has had enough experience to understand that although he may have been momentarily irritated. I have failed to understand a few of his previous substitutions but I think he got them right yesterday as the result against a formidable foe showed. By the way I like the way Darby is making his contribution and will go back to his parent club as an even better player as will Wardy. Let`s have some more of this great stuff at Hartlepool please lads !

From reading through these posts some fans seem to be taking yesterdays performance for granted. Make no mistake, it was a superb result! I thought we dictated the game for the majority of the first they and played the better football. Norwich came back into it just before half time but I thought we were excellent. Second half was a closer affair, Norwich definitely tightened up and were very solid and organised at the back. Thought they played some good football at times and looked a bit more of a threat going forwards. Over the 2 halfs however I thought we were more than a match for them - we had 60% of the possession, more shots on target, more corners - not many teams will do that against them this season.

i except your post about being charlie lovers impcah, as being away up here and cant see many games, i still believe the booing situation can be avoided, hopefully i will be going to the hartlepool game next week, which isnt far from here, then i can see for myself what charlie is like.

Fantastic never say die performance today from the whole team and were well worth our draw. A win for Norwich would have been a travesty and miscarriage of justice.
As for the booing, I just don't get it! We are currently sitting 4th with a good chance of 2nd come the end of the season(When you look at the run in for us). So why the booing? Danny Wilson has done a tremendous job for us so far and any booing is totally unjustified in my view. So shut booing up you booers and let the main man do his job without the hassle!!!!

Taking Charlie off and bringing Vincent on was the right thing to do at the time as we ended up getting a result. Norwich struggled to cope with Vincent and as a result we bossed the game after he came on. Pericard will come good, but come on guys, he must feel totaly unloved at the moment and would probably walk back to Carlisle given half a chance.

I am sick and tired of these so-called Town fans who only seem to come out for the big games and spend the whole time complaining about certain players and booing. I'm going to end up smacking one of these idiots before the season is over. What is there to complain about? We're fourth in the league with a chance of automatic promotion and we more than matched the best side in the division. How anyone can question Wilson's judgment is byond me. Support the Town or stay away.
.
As for Pericard, I was chatting to a Norwich fan after the game and he told me that the boy absolutely destroyed them in their cup game up at Carlisle. I accept that he hasn't exactly set the world alight in his short time at Swindon, but I am certain he will come good. Danny Wilson knows far more about football than we do, which is why he's managing the club and not one of us. If he thinks the player is good enough for the Town then so do I.
I bet the moaners will celebrate if he scores a 90th minute winner in the play-off final...

Its a squad game and Pericard is part of that Squad. If one option does not work how great it is to have another one to fall back on. Do people not remember the days of Eric (Thierry Henry) Sabin the dodgey Greek and Andy (public relations) King! Now there was something to boo (and no options)!

Can't understand the idiots who booed when Austin was being going off>Like someone else has stated on here in my opinon we have the best manager in this league and you need to look at what he has done for this club and where he's taken us, if you think every game is going to go our way then you are misgiven.
Some of you need to show some respect to him because if that was me as manager i tell you to take a giant leap as you dont know what your talking about.
He has been the best manager weve had for a long time and we should be grateful weve got him and because of his success i wouldn't be surprised if someone tried to poach him and then we'll get some of you saying he's disloyal. So get real some of you and realise how lucky we are the most disappointing thing for me is we should have filled the county ground on saturday against Norwich but as usual if we make the playoffs we'll get all the glory hunters again all tunring up.

support your team,manager whatever.
Idon't care if any of you have a go at me at my comments as quite honestly there are some great loyal supporters at our club but there are others who well it beggers belief some of there opininions and comments.

we needed a battering ram up front like Perriciard because of the abysmal refereering decisions as there two centre backs were holding on to Austin all the time and when unpunished throughout the game where do the league get them from they seem to get worse every season totally incompetent lot.
