OUR use of Subbuteo re-creations to beat the press photography ban at Southampton has raised a smile with football fans across the country.
After the Saints imposed a black out on images being taken at their home games - insisting papers instead purchase photos directly from them - we put our heads together and came up with a way to bring Town supporters pictorial coverage of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy clash between the sides.
Using Subbuteo figures we mocked up the key moments from the game, including Vincent Pericard’s opener, Charlie Austin’s celebrations, and the dismissal of Southampton forward Lee Barnard.
The idea has drawn attention from a number of websites and blogs, including journalism site www.holdthefrontpage.co.uk, while national newspaper The Sun have also been on the phone to get hold of our images.
And readers of our website www.thisisswindontownfc.co.uk have been quick to see the funny side of the brainwave.
Oi Den!, from Swindon said: “Superb, Adver! Top marks for fun and ingenuity”, while mister bus, of whitehaven, posted: “Well done Swindon Advertiser for fun pix.”
And following Town’s second win at St Mary’s in less than six months, a tongue-in-cheek comment from the_gloves, of London Town, said: “I’d have thought there would be a bit more excitement at Charlie's second. There are a few in the stand looking quite nonchalant about the whole thing... but then beating Southampton is becoming quite common.”
