MALMESBURY Victoria were knocked out of the FA Vase in the first qualifying round on Saturday after being hammered 5-0 by Hellenic Premier Division side Kidlington, writes SAM MORSHEAD.
Lewis Gabbidon opened the scoring for the hosts after 23 minutes, and Kiddy took a one-goal lead into the break.
After half time, however, Vics buckled under heavy pressure as Mark Baker and Chris Wheedon both scored before the hour mark to sew up the win. Mark Flanagan and Tom Woodbridge completed the thrashing in the 70th and 87th minutes respectively, as Vics’ brief venture into the Vase ended abruptly.
In the Hellenic Premier Division, Binfield trounced Richard Hadgkiss’ Fairford Town 6-1.
Ian and Carl Davies saw the hosts two up within 13 minutes, and although Pete Myall gave the visitors some brief respite and some lingering hope, Fairford were soon sunk.
Ian Davies grabbed his second just after the half hour to give Binfield a 3-1 advantage at the halfway stage, and Carl Davies completed his brace on 60 minutes to put the game to bed after James Rogers had made it 4-1 four minutes previously.
And there was still time for James Suarez to get himself on the scoresheet for the home side, firing the sixth goal of an emphatic Binfield performance with four minutes remaining of the contest.
Wootton Bassett Town’s fairytale start to life back in the Hellenic Premier finally hit a roadblock on Saturday as they slumped to a 3-0 defeat at Bracknell Town.
Two goals in two minutes in the early moments of the second half from Neil Hampson and Sam Whiting shocked Bassett, who were unable to respond.
Whiting rounded off proceedings with a late strike two minutes from time to rub a little extra salt into Bassett’s wound.
