SWINDON TOWN: 'What dreams are made of'

MATCHWINNER Alan Connell always knew the 2011/12 season was going to be a special one for Swindon Town.

Connell booked Town’s place at Wembley with the only goal of the game to beat Barnet 1-0 in the second leg of their Johnstone’s Paint Trophy area final, and secure a 2-1 aggregate victory.

The striker headed home a Paul Caddis cross in the first half to make sure of the win, which ultimately made both his and his teammates’ dreams come true.

“This season I just had a feeling some special things were going to happen and we have had some real good things happen so far, and hopefully there is even better to come,” he said.

“It is an amazing feeling and it is what dreams are made of. One of my burning dreams has been to play at Wembley and we are going there now.

“To score the goal was incredible and I am really happy and proud to take a great club like this to Wembley.

“It is a great night and I have not been able to take the smile off my face since the final whistle. I thought we played some really good stuff, moved the ball well and created some good chances.”

Connell’s header seemed to take an age to cross the line, but the striker knew he had found the net as soon as the ball left his head.

“It is weird, because sometimes when you score a goal you know it is in before it crosses the line, and I was wheeling away before it went in,” he continued.

“It was a great ball in from Paul Caddis following a great move which we work on a lot in training, and I knew it was in as soon as it left my head.

“This goal is up there and maybe it is the most important goal in my career. I scored against Wigan which was important but we never were going to win the FA Cup, but to go to Wembley now with Swindon Town is amazing.”

Thought you worked your socks off last night and hope you make the starting line up at Wembley. For that performance you deserve it.

blimey gonna say the same Connell put a massive shift in last night, even in the last 10 his legs were gone but he was still his all. Very impressed with how far he's come with this team. Always had him down as a league two journeyman. But great attitude proper pro well done sir

I can think of nobody more worthy than Connell to score the winner. He has had to work hard in many games without much reward, and often subbed. He has to work hard in training to make the bench let alone the team, he never lets his head drop, and is always chipper about what goes on. Totally well deserved and I hope he gets a goal in the final too.

Just hope all those waankers Sheehan, Douglas, prutton,Luca
s, and many more was watching the passion thats drained into our team from the none passionate overpaid money grabbing wasters of the Wilson era YOU included WILSON,
Also I hope fitton is thinking only if I knew anything about the great game called football.
Stuff the open double decker parade after we beat the northern monkeys.
Di canio must ask j wray to invest in 14 chariotts with di canio and wray leading the parade all dressed in roman gear then when the town tour has finished ride them down the a420 to pox
And do a city parade
Is this is what dreams are made off.?
Can anyone think of any better?
Onwards and upwards oh forgot to add
IM GOING TO WEMBLEY ARE YOU ?

Agree with all the above comments. His attitude has always been first class and there's times when he's played really well and then next game finds himself on the bench yet still he gives his all whenever he's called upon. Superb professional and he works so hard for the team. No tantrums, just 100% commitment. The players that left after last year could learn so much from him. Like Wizard I hope he scores in the final and gets many more goals for us in the run in.

Blooming right Grim what a fantastic performance last night in total control. Very workmanlike effort by the team which must have had those wasters from last season envious of players running for 95 minutes and 20 seconds. Those Wilson brigade were a disgrace to the shirt and I was so proud of last nights players who ran their socks off in very demanding conditions. Those wimps from last season would have gone hiding in sub zero temperatures like last night for sure. Yes Grim Im off to Wembley sod the expense but I really hope for a better atmosphere than two seasons ago against Millwall. We need 36,000 singers only to go this time around so come on Town fans get those tonsils in tone for March 25th.

hi mate
Remember it's chesterfield not millwall this time around.im sure more people will come as a family and sing like one big happy family without the worry of going to the tubes station and meeting bunches of wild animals, who's looking to kick the daylights out of innocent people who just go to watch a game,
As you said We dominated but the 60-70 min I thought they Are going to snatch a late goal, another game we would have and lost last season, but credit to the back four another superb show and another clean sheet, great to see fodders look so cool and make a call, many balls smith would have flapped, come out-stayed in.about time Connell had his rewards for the goal after his emphatic game.my only dissapointment was benson thought he looked a bit jaded, saying that he will be the man on Saturday to score the winner if the game is on,
Have a good week
Onwards and upwards
