Barnet game off

SWINDON Town's League Two fixture at Barnet tomorrow has been called off following a pitch inspection at Underhill this morning.

Temperatures in the area are currently at zero degrees, with forecasts predicting they will drop as low as minus six later today.

The covers were on overnight at Underhill but when they were removed this morning the pitch was frozen and the decision was made to postpone the fixture.

“It is a shame because at this moment we have high confidence and we would have played against a side we have beaten already this season," said Town boss Paolo Di Canio.

“They probably would have had some players out as well but if we cannot play then we cannot change this.

“I will take the positives from this situation and we will prepare properly for Tuesday, which is a big, big match for us.”

Meanwhile, Swindon's League Two home fixture against Burton Albion has been rearranged for Tuesday, February 28. Kick off at 7.45pm.

No surprises there. I could go somewhere nice and hot for a week with the money saved after two consecutive Saturdays with no football!

Dont recon we will be the only one, next Tuesday could be dodgy as well.

On another note I see First Great Western has stopped all discounted travel for groups on March 25 ? What a coincidence thats the day of the JPT Final. Come op with some lame excuse about discounts only being used to fill seats on quiet services. So if you wanna go to Wembley by train it looks like around £50 a head. IMO recon everyone that planned to go up by train make alternative arrangements and tell Not so Fcuking Great Western to shove their service where the sun dont shine.

So Barnet's tactic of bringing in snow-making machines looks like it's paid off!

I'm a little surprised it's off, London might be worse than here, in the old town snow is melting and temperature is above zero, I wonder if Barnet really wanted this game on with having a few players not available. maybe too early to say, but I would think if we are still using the air dome we have a good chance of the tuesday game being on.

Saw Simon Ferry waiting for a lift this morning with his training bag outside old town court, (high st to drove rd), so i guess he is got over his sickness and is ready to go again.

I See Martin Ling wins manager of the month, it's turning into a real nightmare for poor Palo, we beat Wigan too...

Don't think they'll be gutted but they will also play us in the middle of a run of Sat-Tues-Sat fixtures for us so much better for them.
--
My sister is just up the road and they are worse off than us but tonight's temperatures are die to go far too low.
--
You also need to take into account that their pitch is more liable to freezing due to type, location and probably not such good maintenance.
--
At least I may be able to go for the re-arranged date as couldn't make it tomorrow.
--
Let's use our credit note and get the dome back in with lots of blowers for Tuesday!..biggest game of the season to date!

I'm convinced Barnet didn't want this game played. Not so close to the jpt game.
they knew they'd be missing players and that we would most likely completely fill the away end. Most likely matching their home attendance.

The FA and the FL stiffs are a joke, as I have said before I doubt very much Paolo is too bothered about it, they don't like him and it was almost guaranteed martin Ling would win it this month with his 4 wins against mediocre teams.

Whether it's the Manager of the Month, the Disciplinary Committee or refs not giving us penalties, it all smells a bit sh- - - -.

I used to know an old guy who sat on the Premier League Disciplinary Committee. How did he get the post? He had given something like 40 years service to his local amateur FA, and he wasn't the only one who was appointed in that way!

He was a lovely old guy, but no more an expert on the Professional game than most of us on here. How could the likes of him understand the passion and pressures on Di Canio, Ferguson or Rooney?

And it seems there is no accountability or any explanations of how they come to their decisions. We might be paranoid here in Swindon - but we're all in it together, and that spirit's going to get us promotion!

Ouch!..could be 11 in 32 days!
.
Hang on that's the Burton fixture - but still ouch!
.
First available date and will be 3rd in a sequence of 4 Tues-Sat fixtures the following week could make it 5 as the 13th March is a free date for both STFC and Barnet and could be the perfect date.
--
IF it is the 13th that will be ELEVEN games in 32 DAYS!!...5 days later is the JPT Final.

Oh and we have to fit Aldershot away in during 3 available April dates - they HAVE to get Tuesday's game on!

Proof they dont like Paolo at the FA by not giving him the manager of the month award i doubt he is too worried though as its a poisoned chalice anyway.

Worrying our games are mounting up in a short space of time.

It wasn't very likely that they would award PDC both a touchline ban and Manager of the Month on the same day now, wa it?

Doubly p*ssed off today because I had planned to go to Barnet tomorrow (tickets bought) and now I see that they have rearranged the Burton game for a day when I will be away on holiday (I picked that week to go away because it was the only one this side of Easter when I wouldn't have missed a game). B*gger !!!!

Presumably if we get a spate of injuries we can recall any of our players who are out on loan. Could depend on whether or not the Club comes before PdC's undoubted pride. The one chink in his armour I feel.

- 4 from 5 at home in 2 weeks
- 6 from 8 at home in 3.5 weeks

At least we should know where we stand by the end of this run of fixtures as all the Top 8 or 9 teams have to play at least 3 others from the top 8 or 9..some have to play 5!

Don't see this fixture backlog as an issue
.
We have played the same as everyone else and only have one extra game than everyone other than Crawley who are still in the cup
.
If our games are off - like last week pretty much all will be off - meaning everyone is in the same boat
.
Actually everyone else is worse off as they don't have the options and quality we have!
.
Our players have been rotated up to now so are not as tired as others and will continue to be so!
.
Come Crawley we can choose from Rhompson, Boateng, Cibbocchi, Risser, Cox, Rooney, Bodin, Murray, Magera, Gabi and Easyjet who all did not start the last game!
.
Plus with Kerrouche going we may even have another 1 or 2 come in
.
Plus we are ultra fit - so can cope with matches as Southend showed where they had 9 days to prepare and we didn't!

Whilst only Poxford have a worse home record than them in the Top 7 I didn't expect Rovvers to turn the Shrimpers over on their own patch!
--
As per predicted though Southend are falling away:
When the going gets tough!..!?
--
Doubt that all the others will survive but come on Hereford!..and Torquay v Shrewsbury to draw please!
..
Can't even bring myself to hope for too much from Aldershot sadly - but stranger things have happened at sea eh!?

As predicted 6 games now off - so we are all in it together!
.
The only ones who seem not to be effected are Safend - which is a good thing as they keep on racking up dropped points
.
Win our games in hand and we will open up a 5 point lead!
.
I know they say points on the board are better - but would much rather be us right now!

Mondeaux says...

Current form suggests that Southend have lost the plot, they've only picked up 11pts from their last ten league games and in the process have conceded more goals than they've scored.
Creepies have picked up 19 pts,
Cheltenham and STFC have both picked up 25pts (won-8, drawn-1, lost-1).
Cheltenham have scored 18 goals, one more than STFC, but have conceded 11 to STFC's 6.
