Evans fumes at Swindon defeat

STEVE Evans feels there were 'other factors' at work as the Crawley boss watched his side lose 3-0 to Swindon at the County Ground last night.

Goals from Luke Rooney, Billy Bodin and Paul Benson sealed the win for Town, and means they are just one point off the top three with two games in hand.

And while Evans conceded the better side on the night won, he hinted at other factors being involved.

“I have to be careful what I say," said the Scot after the game.

"There were other factors here. We got well beaten, but there were other factors.

“I am not going to change my views from before the game (that Swindon are a good side), in fact I would endorse it."

Evans also suggested that Swindon are to be reported by the match assessor, but would not disclose for what reason.

He added: “We were second best. We started alright, then the referee got involved. I can say the assessor said he will reporting Swindon, but listen, we got well beat.”

Well let's hope the fools from the FA take on board his implied critisism of the officials and give him a 2 match ban from the touchline and a hefty fine? I will help them, imagine that it was DC who made those remarks....you see, easy isn't it.....3 game ban ha ha.

Other factors?

what one earth are you on about Evans?

The Referee got involved? The same ref who could have sent off Crawley's number 4 (the last defender) for bringing down Billy Bodin and didn't.

The same ref who made a fair few dodgy decisions against us before admittedly making another which saw play brought back whilst Crawley were through on goal.

We both had to contend with his antics so think on mate. Despite the fact you say you were beaten by the best side, you come across as a sour loser and a total tit because you've said other things were going on.

Perhaps we're being reported because it's not fair that we played football on the ground when you were obviously under the impression League 2 was all about hoof ball, long throws, rolling around on the ground for prolonged periods of time and pushing other players around.

I am absolutely over the moon that we beat Crawley because there is just something not particularly nice about the team and their manager.

A thoroughly professional performance tonight.

Facts for Mr Evans.

1. Their game plan of ruff us up, stop Ritchie/Caddis worked up until our goal.
2. Crawley's brand of football last night was shockingly poor, and made it hard for us to play with fluency
3. 6-0 (agg)
4. Swindon 6 pts, Crawley 0 pts

Can we play you every week?

Creepy were beaten in every department last night. They tried the rough stuff and it didn't work. Then we gave them a lesson in football on the ground. We can do without the likes of Evans in the game, and his brand of 'Football'. How he's still in the game anyway is a mystery.
Expect to see Crawley fall away now, but no doubt that will be down to 'other factors'. Looser!

Couple of us discussed this in the pub after the game after moaning about the filthy cheats, poor referee and fat c**t Evans antics in and out of his technical area. The club now should put a camera on the dugouts for the rest of the season and send the video with every incident of the opposition manager coming out his area, shouting abuse at players on pitch, arguing with the officials, waving of the arms with a request that they either now punish the managers the same as Paolo or make a public apology.

There was an interesting article in the Telegraph about 2 weeks ago saying how usually people love an underdog in the FA Cup but no one has any love for Crawley and most would rather see the 'bigger' team win. I hope they get stuffed by Stoke on Saturday. Evan's you have been found out and it won't be long til other football playing teams get the measure of you to. Us, Torquay and Shews for autos now me thinks.

6 straight wins and I'd suggest the team of 85/86's record of unbeaten from 4th January is under threat as I can see this team extending their run from 31st December.

What odds us winning every game? Long shot but talking to Phil Smith after the game and he says that the atmosphere around the place is just incredible. After a win the team are happy but, without being cocky they sort of expect to win and focus on where they could have been better.

So happy this morning. Evans stated this morning on their site that it was their worst performance in 18 months. What he means is that it is the best performance he has seem from a team in 18 months. Evans was obviously getting at our players and yelling at the officials and Caddis and Ritchie were not going to just stand there and take it. I was very proud to see a Swindon side stand up to the bullying tactics of Crawley and refuse to be intimidated. It seems to me that Caddis spoke to the referee when he thought it necessary as he is captain and our players didnt, which is exactly the right way to go about things. How Evans was allowed to wave his arms about and rant and rave without being spoken to by the officials is beyond me. I saw nothing last night relating to Town which could possibly need reporting by the assessor. I saw a determined Town side refuse to be brow-beaten.

We all know Evans is a big mouthed lout and his histrionics on the touchline last night were ridiculous, given what di Canio gets sent to the stand for.

I would say that regarding the ref, he had a point. I thought he made some unbelievable decisions and let go a number of what looked like fouls by us, especially in the second half. And lets face it, we were all (including me!) calling for a red card for Mr T, but was it seriously a red card offence, on the half way line?

If one of our players had been sent off for that we would certainly have something to say about it.

I thought we were worthy winners last night and after a sluggish start it was good to see football prevailing, but Crawley look miles better than Southend and one of the best sides I have seen this season. I would not be surprised if we finished top and Crawley second, come the end of the season.

Wasn't red. There was to much ground to be covered. And our player would of been far slower with the ball than their defenders chasing back.

Now.....The player that put his hand to caddis' neck in the mele that took place immediatley after. Now that was deserving of a red card! And bearing in mind the lines man stepped into break the two of them up. I am surprised he didn't see or report it....

If Evans had sent him team to play the football they are capable of then we might have seen a different match (but not score!!). But while they focus on rolling around in agonising death throws and he does his outraged Benny Hill act on the touchline, this team will not produce their best. Very gracious, and nice to see teams united by a mutual hate figure :-)

Correct, Sturrock didn't try and make excuses, and you have a good manager there. He'll be remembered by most from Swindon fairly fondly.

Evans on the other hand said there were "no excuses" for the performance whilst in the same breath coming up with conspiracy theories about why they lost - you can't have it both ways, if you say no excuses, then that's the final word - anything further and excuses are exactly what you're making. Seem to remember at Boston he (and the board) also claimed he was being unfairly targetted... cheap shot but it's a big enough target to aim for :-)

After the first twenty minutes I thought the ref had lost control of the match and it would get very nasty. However, in the end he only booked two players in the whole game, which suggests he did ok. The centre-half's foul was not a red in my view - far too far out to give.

Regarding the Huddersfield sacking, yes a surprise and shows a fine line between success and failure. I felt Clarke had done well, and they had that tremendous run in the league but clearly the Board felt they should be in the Championship. It could blow up in their faces as surely the minimum they would have achieved this season would have been play-offs. What if they drop down the league under the new manager? How long will he be given?

- I agree it's sickening that a man who has raised Huddersfield to a level not enjoyed for a long time is given the elbow just because they lost to a promotion rival. I know loyalty is almost a thing of the past, but this sort of thing gives managers and players an extra excuse to walk whenever they see more money waved in front of their eyes.

And the real losers? The fans who support them through thick and thin and pay their wages. It just makes it all the more satisfying that we are enjoying a period of stable growth for a change.
