Bodin hopes to extend Swindon deal

BILLY Bodin has reiterated his desire to stay at Swindon beyond this season after the striker scored his second goal in as many games in the 3-0 win over Crawley.

The Wales Under-21 international, son of Robins legend Paul, scored a spectacular 25-yard striker to effectively end the game as a contest last night.

Bodin is out of contract at the end of the season and the club are yet to open discussions with him a new deal at the County Ground.

“There has not been anything yet. The gaffer has said just keep doing well and we will see what happens but nothing has been offered yet,” the teenager told the Advertiser.

“I would love to stay. Hopefully I will be offered it by the end of the season because my main aim is to stay at Swindon.”

Bodin’s goal was undoubtedly the pick of the bunch last night, with his sweetly struck effort giving Crawley keeper Michael Kuipers no chance.

“It came from a throw in. Luckily Cadds (Paul Caddis) threw the ball across my body and the only thing on was really to shoot. Thankfully I did and it ended up in the back of the net,” he added.

“It was fantastic. To get my first goal for Swindon was great and then to get another a couple of weeks later is great.

“Like I said before, it is a shame I did not get to score my first professional goal for Swindon, but hopefully I can get a few more now.”

He was quality last night, some of his skill defies belief. The trick on the corner of the 18 yard box in front of the Arkells in the first half and the control of the long high ball in the second come to mind.

Billy has always been a fantastic talent, he will go on to be a high profile player. it is a shame it took so many so long to see this, but now hopefully people have seen his skills, ball control and intelligent reading of the game he will get a deal that he deserves. To think he is on £300 a week whilst others are on a lot more. Billy keep doing the same thing with both your feet and your brain and surely you will get the deal you deserve

Billy`s father will teach him how defenders move and react ! Paolo will teach him striking techniques ! With obvious ability Billy`s inevitable progress will be a joy for Town fans to follow !

Totally agree with STFC49, anybody who has watched Billy from Boy to Man will know he has always had that little bit of extra talent and skill. Class is permanent and STFC will benefit from Billys talent and hopefully he will get the right contract to keep a local talent at our club. Great Result.

Dear mr wray, the more goals he scores like last night, the more he will expect to get paid. I'd offer that contract sooner rather than later ...

Agree with you all, sign him up. He had a very good game last night capped with a brillaint goal, which would have been two if he hadnt been hauled down when clean through.

i will admit i had my doubts on billy becoming a town player, hes done well going out on loan, since he as come back he as turned into a quality player, that goal last night was a beaut, so my decision is that if he can keep it going on his performance from the last two games i would love him to sign, excellent show last night billy.

The thing is he wants to be here, he loves Swindon as does Bodin Snr, we need players that want to be here.

Caddis for me is turning out to be my player of the season, he is an excellent captain and great player...

I am a long standing fan of Billy, as I was of his dad. Watched him closely last night and was impressed with his goal and undoubted skill. However - IMHO and I know there will be detractors - his overall contribution and effort to the team needs to improve. Essentially, his work rate needs to increase if he wants to play at a higher level. Am sure he will only get better, especially with coaching from PDC. I would also offer him a two year deal before others come sniffing. Really enjoyed the game against Crawley. Evans is an utter disgrace and will ultimately (and hopefully) get his come-uppance....soon
er rather than later.

Agree with you, Wiki27. Benson will no doubt help him, as his (Benson's)work rate and ability to chase long balls and deflections is a joy to watch.

Still can't thank fat face enough for last night. The team looked intimidated in the first 20 minutes, and that caused the crowd to be subdued, but his antics and the hatchet job on Billy when he could have been clean through lifted the temperature. The crowd went mad, the team moved up a gear - and the rest's history!

Good points AnotheView. Benson was my MOM yesterday, helping out loads in defence and at set peices and also making tremendous runs out to the flanks throughout the game. Amazing for a 32 year old. We really missed Flint at set pieces, but we won't get too many 6+ foot sides pumping the ball into the box like Crawley. I can't mention Crawley without a comment on Evans. This guy is an utter disgrace - loved it when Caddis and Rooney taunted him. His behaviour should be closely looked at by the FA...oh wait a minute, he's not Italian, is he??

I think that we should be talking to Billy before an auction opens towards the end of the season with other clubs coming in for his services, the old adage of the early bird catching the worm comes to mind.

While I completely agree with others comments about individual players you may like to reflect that this was a massive totally complete almost all encompassing "Total Team Performance". This for me was better than beating some of the Championship sides we have met this season because of the very over physical approach by Creepies and for a lot of the first half Ferry was off his game for whatever reason, and I hope he is better soon.

We found our way out of a deep hole last night, first half, and the goal turned the game. That demonstrated control, resilience, patience and sticking to the plan, and ignoring all the wind up tactics. PDC has installed all of that into this team and has upped the standard which is why we are where we are.

Totally agree, the skill in bringing down that high ball was breathtaking.

I had not been too convinced by Bodin, but last night for me he came of age in a tough match against difficult opposition. As he continues to develop physically and gets stronger he will become a very good player. I can't imagine for one minute we will let him go.

Agree also with above comments on Paul Benson. His contribution should not go unnoticed. Works really hard, wins his headers, links play well and scored too! What more could you ask. Possibly MOTM for me.

Wiki 27 (I think) said of Billy Bodin:-

"However - IMHO and I know there will be detractors - his overall contribution and effort to the team needs to improve. Essentially, his work rate needs to increase if he wants to play at a higher level.
How old is he? Is he good enough to play for us?
Come on! There is an undoubted talent there which under PdeC's tutilage can only improve.
Good enough for Wales to be impressed and he wants to stay with us. Jewel for the future but comfortable now playing against one of the leaders in this division who did not exactly featherbed him.

By the way a goal a game ain't a bad start. Could be changing the name above from Lucas to Bodin!

Sign him up Mr Wray.

The transformation in Bodin is a combination, not coincidence, of him maturing at the right time in terms of his playing ability, and having someone like Di Canio at the helm. It's no surprise to see him starting to flourish and it's a timing/regime scenario that has made it happen.

A town legend in teh making. I've been impressed every game I've seen of his. You can tell he's got far more ability than is required at this level. His touch and control are superb.

So pleased he scored last night.

As I clearly said, BillyLucas4me, IMHO as indeed you have yours and I respect that. The fact remains that despite all the euphoria over Bodin, he has much to learn. Its also a fact - I watched him all game against Crawley - his overall effort and team contribution needs to improve. With the right coaching, he will go on and do well. And remember, one swallow does not make a summer. IMHO...

Agree that Billy's overall effort and contribution need to improve, but he looks a different player to before the Torquay loan.

Credit Martin Ling for that he gave him his chance and has returned an improved, confident player who looks sharper and stronger.

Is he a winger (Ling) or a striker (PDC) I don't know, but he's a good player for sure and a new deal should be offered.

Incidentally watch out for Torquay. The only league team to beat us since goodness knows when, although I'm sure they will suffer a similar fate to Crawley when we host them here.

And I'm sure we think alike in wishing him well for another 6 or more to add to that total. Credit also must be given to the rest of the team in preventing or limiting the amount of clear shots the other team gets on our goal. McCormack has been very influential in achieving this and his contribution must never be overlooked, that said our mid field have been superb in limiting, stopping our opponents, what a magnificent totally involved team we have right now. After the disappointment of last season sometimes its just a bit too good to be true, if you know what I mean.
