SWINDON Town are back on top of League Two for the first time since the opening day of the season after battling back from a goal down to seal an unlikely 2-1 win over Shrewsbury tonight.

The Robins were far from at their best in the first half and fell behind five minutes before the break when Matt Richards headed home

Paolo Di Canio brought on Alan Connell at the start of the second half and he pulled Swindon level just after the hour before grabbing the winner with less than 20 minutes remaining.

Here are the key moments from tonight’s:

Five mins: It is a scrappy opening to the game but the first chance, and it is a half chance at best, goes the way of the hosts when Luke Rooney flicks a header from Matt Ritchie’s cross well wide.

14 mins: James Collins drags a shot wide of Wes Foderingham’s goal in Shrewsbury first attack of the game.

36 mins: After a spell of very little happening Shrewsbury have a good chance to take the lead when a flowing, attacking move ends with Mark Wright having clear sight of goal but he sidefoots well over the bar.

40 mins (GOAL, Richards 0-1): The visitors are ahead and, in truth, deservedly so as Matt Richards heads home from Mark Wright’s corner. The goal is Foderingham’s first goal conceded at home in a league game.

52 mins: Town fortunate not to be further behind when Terry Gornell tumbles inside the area under the attention of Alan McCormack but the referee says no penalty, much to the relief of the home fans.

64 mins (GOAL, Connell 1-1): Somehow Swindon are level when Shrews keeper Chris Neal spills a long-range effort from Ritchie and substitute Alan Connell is on hand to stab home from close range.

76 mins (GOAL, Connell 2-1): Amazingly, Swindon are ahead when Luke Rooney’s stunning shot from outside the area hits the underside of the bar and Connell is again on hand to scramble the ball home. From then on, Town defend well to seal the vital victory.
