SWINDON TOWN: Magera Czechs out...for now

GOING HOME: Lukas Magera GOING HOME: Lukas Magera

INTERIM chairman Jeremy Wray insists Lukas Magera still has a future at Swindon, despite moving on loan to Czech Republic side Banik Ostrava for the remainder of the season.

The striker signed a two-year deal with the Robins back in August but injuries and poor form has seen him struggle to hold down a regular starting spot under Paolo Di Canio.

Magera is now behind Paul Benson, Alan Connell, Billy Bodin and Ronan Murray in the pecking order and his former club Banik made contact with Swindon to discuss his availability.

The 29-year-old will now return to his native country, but Wray stressed that time has not been called on his long-term future at Swindon.

“He has played for them before and they came in for him. Their season runs on for a bit longer than ours does, they need a striker and they know Lucas,” he told the Advertiser.

“He very much wants to be a part of things here going forward but realises he is not going to get games in the short term and it seemed best for both him and ourselves for him to go there.

“He needs to go out and play. It is no secret that he has found League Two quite tough but he might be one of those players who does better in a League One situation.

“He is clearly a quality player, you don’t become a Czech Republic international without having something about you, but I think it just works sensibly for him to go out on loan in the short term and then we will pick it up at the end of the season.”

Magera is one of the big earners at the County Ground and Banik will make a contribution towards his wages during his time at the club.

Wray also confirmed Swindon are still actively working on bringing in another striker to help in the end of season run in, and that a new arrival could well be on the horizon.

“It is no secret that we are still looking for cover up front,” he added. “Paul Benson is soldering on playing the role of a holding striker but we want someone to come in as cover for that.

“There are one or two we are looking at, something may happen shortly so we will see.”

Meanwhile, Wray and Nick Watkins are due to meet with the FA in the coming weeks to discuss a number of issues related to Swindon, who have found themselves in hot water with English football’s governing body on a couple of occasions in recent weeks.

Hopefully he can come back a player with a bit more self-belief....

Good news about the meet with the FA. Seems like it could be a constructive meeting....

As I was going to say yesterday on the initial thread that was then closed for comment, just because a player goes out on loan does not mean that 100% of wages is picked up by the other club. Far from it.

Depending on the agreement struck, it can be anything between 0% and 100%, with or without recall clauses, etc. etc.

I'm not sure how much we're 'saving' as a result, or where we stand regarding the L2 salary cap, or whether this means we will look to bring someone else in on loan.

We now have four strikers at the club (Connell, Benson, Bodin, Murray). I reckon the various ins and outs of the strikers has been the least successful aspect of this season's policy.

Luckily we get a lot of goals from midfield and defence, including Ritchie, Flint, Caddis and now Rooney.

Good luck Magera, hopefully he can get some confidence back and either come back and do the job for us (he has quality, we just havent seen it yet) or he can be sold on for some profit.

From Baniks own website, translated by google from the Czech,....

'Transfer market bomb! Lukas Magera is back!
Great stunt succeeded Banik new shareholders. The club agreed to the arrival of Luke Mager!

Twenty-nine attacker thus returns to Ostrava after three and a half years, yet Banik will be lent by the end of the season and wants to help the team coach Paul Malury to the rescue. If the club gets enough time ITC headquarters of the English Association, is a quadruple Czech national team ready to play next Saturday against Jablonec to match!

"It should be noted that a large quota of work in the arrival of Luke Mager did Marek Jankulovski. Graduated series of phone calls Swindon manager with Italian Paolo Di Canio and negotiated that we Luke the end of the release. Then it was on our agreement with the player and then we came very quickly. Meeting with Lukas was very fair, "said Chairman Peter Šafarčík.

Old-new face would be the first to report Bazaly on Wednesday, today Lukas Magera just returned home from England. "So what's in these hectic days in Banik walk, happened and it really is arranged literally overnight. But I'm glad that we managed to be resolved before the deadline transfers. A player of his qualities will undoubtedly help us, "said Peter Šafarčík.

Lower pupil Beneš in Banik advocated for some time, he also rebounded on loan to Kladno, but then returned to Bazaly and together with Vaclav Svěrkošem created one of the best tandems in the league firing. I therefore went to the summer of 2008 when a wealthy Romanian Timisoara. When the club last year, got into trouble, headed lanky striker as a free agent in Swindon Town, acting in the fourth English league.'

I love google translator!

Yeah - what happened to the comments section yesterday?
.
SAP - my comments yesterday were not a defence of Magera at all - they were over the ridiculous things people post
.
Just like I made the same comment when someone suggested Bodin was on £300 a week - under £15k a year!
.
Or Clarke was on £6k a week!!!
.
How do they know this? Champ Manager?
.
I personally think Ritchie would have been set as the benchmark as the top wage this year
.
Why considering he was already here and made the key player from day 1 - so easily to match offers to that level - i.e he is on X no new player will be offered more
.
So if Magera is on 5k - so would he!
.
Then the likes of Caddis, Ferry, Timlin and Clarke too would have been up near that
.
Add them together and we are talking about £1.25m of our budget likely to be in the region of £2m on only 5 or 6 players!(Revenue has to be £3.6m to allow that much)
.
That leaves about £750k - for the remaining 25 odd players
.
Are they really going to be on £30k or £600 a week!!!!!
.
As for Magera I have also not only defended him but all the foreign imports - and as Risser has started to show people were way to quick to judge some!
.
As said above - hopefully this loan will do LM good and he will come back a better player for STFC like Fallon and a certain Alan Mcloughlin - who was shipped out to Torquay after not initally settling!
.
If not and he does move on so be it - I'll let PdC decide who he thinks is right for STFC

I woudnt like to guess at the salaries issue, I am sure the board will be working within the constraints set by the league though.
As for Mags, good luck to you, go and get some goals and regain a bit of confidence. See you next season when you can try again with, in my eyes anyway, a clean slate.

Back on the striker speculation front what about Leigh Barnard ? doesn,t seem to be getting a sniff at Saints, I guess he is still there ?
Or is that wishfull thinking !
We turned the game around from really poor and apprehensive to confident title chasers last night, what a 90 mins. Good teams can do that and we are certainly a decent side at this level these days.

Dont think we need a striker personally!
.
Benson is doing fine as the target man and we have a good battle between Connell and Bodin to partner him!
.
We have Murray as cover to them too
.
Guess maybe a big man to cover Benson should he miss a game now Magera is out - but that could be adressed as and if required

what if benson were to get injured? he's a 32 year old, so a decent back up, or someone to come on later in the game to replace him definitely a must especially with kerrouche and magera now loaned out!
As good as our other strikers maybe, they are a bit slight and knocked off the ball against big defenders. (bodin against shrewsbury for eg). we were lucky against shrewsbury to get back into and win that game, and need to play better for longer periods, with no complacency creeping in. would have liked to have seen us sign Mcleod from barnet, but
maybe a loan from westham might be whats needed, frank nouble anyone?

Hope you are right about a constructive meeting but it takes both parties listening to what each other have to say - and the FA don't exactly have a track record in this

Forza - that is what I meant by if required
.
If he is out for longer than a game then we could make a emergency loan move then - as the window is open until end of March
.
Also Kerrouche is only out until start of March - so if need be could be recalled
.
We coped without Benson, Kerrouche and Magera for periods of this great run - so am confident we could still cope now for a few games if Benson is out
