SEAN Wood has agreed to stay at Supermarine after rejecting the advances of Hellenic Premier high-flyers Shortwood.
Wood revealed his decision some eight days after Shortwood released a statement saying they had signed the former Cirencester man.
The uncertainty over a deal had been drawn out by the fact that the midfielder was supervising Swindon Town Under 13s on a football tour in the Cayman Islands, and was not contactable.
But having returned at the weekend and spoken to Marine joint bosses Gary Horgan and Matt Robinson, Wood has decided to remain at the Webb’s Wood Stadium, and could play a part when his team welcome title-chasing Totton tonight.
“They said they wanted me to stay and be a part of the squad,” revealed Wood.
“We’ve got a few suspensions in the next couple of games and they said if I do well then I can keep my place.
“I was interested (in going to Shortwood) because I wasn’t playing at the time and you’re virtually guaranteed games as they are two leagues below.
“I was a little bit frustrated, I don’t think I played a single minute of two of the three games we had before I went away, and that’s difficult to get your head around because every player thinks they should be in the side.
“But now I’ve made the decision to stay and hopefully help the side stay up.”
There were mixed fortunes for local sides in the Hellenic Premier Division last night.
Fairford were beaten 3-1 at home by Binfield, but Highworth came out on top in a thriller at the Elms, beating Ardley 3-2.
