Regardless of whether Matt wins or not, this clearly means he is regarded as one of the top 3 players in the division, therefore any club wanting to buy must pay ££££££££

Fodders, Flint, Ferry and Caddis must be numbers 4 to 7 I should think.

Also surprised McFadzen of Crawley not in there as wasn't he part of a big double bid in January, so also well regarded.

Rumours are rife with regards to Crawley's financial situation.

Hence the reason for their second striker leaving them.

It's just a shame that lardy Evans isn't going into meltdown instead of the club.

Unbelievable as you say.

7 straight wins and at half time they went off to boo's......what are some people on !!

Really liked Di Canio's after match interview when he made reference to those selected few fans. He put it in a rather well versed manner.

Fair play to the lads turning it around last night against a good Shrewsbury side who also like to play football.

Great seeing the mighty Town top of the league.

Huge irony in the Lee Clark nomination, personally I think he has been very badly treated by Hudders.

Matt has to win it really - especially as 1 player is not even in L2!
.
Boos were ridiculous - even if we were cr@p - considering what they have done this year they should be allowed a cr@p half or game now and again and still be supported
.
It was not as if they were not trying like last years losers!
.
Would be ironic if Clark did win - but has he been harshly treated?
.
He has been given an absolute fortune (Ward was £1m alone this summer) yet has failed to deliver promotion for what is looking like a 3rd striaght year!
.
Like PdC said this week - if we win 10 straight and break a record it counts for nothing if we don't go up!
.
If PdC had us in Oxford's position after the support he had been given by the board would lots of our fans still be singing his praises?
.
I know some would - but lots have said non promotion is total failure - so should people be rewarded for failure?
.
Anyway - only Freedman has done anything this year out of those 3 - shows the nominations are at the wrong time of the year
.
Just like team of the year - bet the L2 team will not be full of our players even though at least 6 should be in it!
.
Wes, Caddis, Flint, Macca, Ritchie and Ferry should all be considered
.
Though only one of Macca or Flint should get in alongside McFadzen at CB
.
Strikers would be interesting as both Tubbs and Barnett would be in the running but neither are in L2!
.
Must be Kee and McLoed now

I think Pack might give Ritchie a run for his money. He certainly ran the show against us at their place, and from what I can gather he's been consistent this season. Ritchie did have that spell of a few games (just before the Colchester game?) where he was pretty much anonymous. As a Town fan, I hope he wins it. He's a good player, and I think he (along with Caddis) could be even better if he didn't take time out from doing what he does best to scream in the face of referees.

All good points as always. Creepies must be in a pickle!

I dont want to do old ground but yet again our crowd number was poorish, if you take into consideration 5k season tickets in. If 25000 go to wembley, great, but that does not equate to a crowd of under 8000 for a top of the table clash. Something is wrong somewhere and it may well be price lead.

That price surely has to be 19.95 max from now on. We must be trying to get 10000 in the ground otherwise its selling a bad story to PDC and JRAY about how much people in Swindon want good football.

Finally to Boo after our run is just moronic, very very sad and I can only praise the calm way PDC pointed out to those people that that is just wrong.

I think the price is a fair cost to watch league football. people want everything cheaper but in the real world you get nothing for free. there are teams you can watch cheaper supermarines for one.
Regarding fans from Swindon I really would like to know how many from the county ground are from Swindon. I know twenty or so regulars at the CG and only 2 are local. The rest like my family travel to swindon.
We have one good little football league team in Wiltshire no major rugby teams and the support is not the best. I know times are hard for some at the moment but for the last eight years Ive been a season ticket holder people have complained about the cost. for the quality of football we are watching at the moment and the fact that Swindon are one of the cheaper football league clubs out of the four divisions you would think there should be far more fans.

London Red says...
3:44pm Wed 22 Feb 12

Just because a few on here see it as a pointless cup - doesn't mean lots of others would
.
Barnet was a semi final 2nd leg and people obviously wanted to watch it to see STFC go to Wembley - that doesn't happen everyday
.
Also it has to be factored in that it was only £10 (a price no club could afford week in week out)
.
The price for Shrewsbury was only £20 anyway - as 13000 had Wigan Tickets which was a £5 off coupon!
.
Also a reduction has been used lots this year Barnet, Hereford, Gills and Bradford to name a few on top in the league - plus all the JPT and Huddersfield cup games
.
We then have the DR and Cheltenham offer coming up too
.
These have never seen the gate suddenly break 10,000 showing price is not a big a factor as some are making out (unless it is down to £10)
.
We also have to remember we have 5 of the next 6 games at home - plus Wembley coming up so people are probably picking and choosing games more at the moment
.
Accrington may get more due to being a Sat - i.e Bradford had more than Gills!
.
8,000 would see us top half of L1 attendance level - so in L2 is certainly not to be sniffed at
.
Exactly as I predicted before the season started we are 2nd in the attendance table
.
Bradford who give their tickets away are top - then us some nearly 1000 clear of in Pox 3rd and then some 1500 of lymouth in 4th and 2000 of the rest!!!

London Red says...
4:10pm Wed 22 Feb 12

Watkins said the other week that 65% of the fan base lived outside the Swindon area
.
That would explain lower midweek attendances!
.
I can never go to midweek games at the CG

Oxon-Red says...
4:23pm Wed 22 Feb 12

The crowds at the CG are fantastic and should not be moaned at. I believe we are getting more now than we were in League 1 during the Play-off season.

I believe we have a good solid base of around 12,000.

5,000 of these are ST holders and the other 7,000 come when they can. Work, cost, distance and time are all factors that should not be overlooked. My Brother comes down with his young son from Birmingham when he can and has seen 5 or 6 matches.

I have said it before that we should not criticise stay away fans if we want them to come more often as they will be less likely to.

LR, nobody said it was a "pointless cup" in this thread. I said I find it odd that more people wanted to see that game than see important promotion battles - and I certainly wasn't complaining about the size of our crowds. Good point about the ticket prices for the Barnet game. I had forgotten that.

ctown,

I identified my player on another thread.

For me it has to be Simon Ferry with Mac, Cads, Ritchie and Fods close behind.

Ferry for me because he is the driving force behind the Ritchie and Caddis partnership and our forward play. His intelligent use of the ball, the running he does (with and without the ball) is outstanding and he is second to none in this division in central midfield. He is playing well below his standard and will hopefully play at his true level in the championship with STFC. After the shaky start he ran the show at Leicester (and they knew it) and was only stopped by that crude tackle by Konchesky. Last night it took two minutes for him to make an impact.

My opinion but Simon for me :-)

I travel from Corsham with mates from Westbury and Melksham - every home game and quite a few away games. I still believe that our support from within Swindon itself is quite low and still disappointing.
As for attendances generally, I think a decision needs to be made regarding pricing policy, even if we are competitive there is a lack of regular attendees that the club need to address... I wonder how many season ticket sales they would get by offering an Adult price for £150.00...? Just a thought..

Lets hope their players start to react to this on the pitch with some more poor performances starting tonight!!

SAP, I'm guessing that what Malkym is referring to is when you said you'd never seen a positive post from me. I must confess I was a tad annoyed by that statement. Nobody has to justify him/herself to anybody else on here but I thought I would defend myself by listing some of the many positive comments I've made. You said you would respond but you didn't, so I imagine Malkym has picked up on that.
.
What I have done on many occasions is to try to argue that an outcome is not necessarily wrong just because it does not benefit STFC. However special STFC is to me, I recognise that the football family is bigger than one club. This may be negativity in your world, but in mine it is not. For me the real negativity is the personal abuse of anyone who has a different point of view, or who acts in good faith but happens to produce an outcome we are not happy with.
.
It is of no importance to me whether you apologise for your unfounded comments or not. I would just say that I perceive you to be a person of some intelligence and I think you can do a lot better than throw around ill-considered cheap shots.

I certainly am enjoying the football on the pitch, and I think we've got a very good manager who is a shrewd tactician and whose great enthusiasm galvanises us fans; I think we've made some great signings; I think the club is very well run now...
.
But you would already know I believe these things if you bothered to take notice of other people's comments before blasting your scattergun at them as soon as you spot something that doesn't conform entirely to the SAPfan ideology.
.
There is some good debate on here. Most people tend to discuss things in a civilised manner and admit when they've lost the argument. You, on the other, don't seem to care a jot about such humility. You appear to want to shoot first, and ask questions later - and then not listen to the answers.

Malkym says...
10:52pm Thu 23 Feb 12

Oh dear SAP or Ian/Iain isn't it?you really are under the weather aren't you, certainly not your usual happy go lucky slap happy chappie.

My offensive if you call it that was to elicit a response re Den's so called negativity and it worked! here you are not exactly debating more slating so to speak -juice & medication PMSL!

I believe your problem if you want to call it that, is that perhaps Den & I are two of a kind maybe in your thought pattern although certainly not one and the same lol!. You seem to have caught a bad case of JoeyBitis!!

We both often express similar views possibly because we are older and a tad more realistic and mature in our approach to situations on and off the pitch perhaps, and that obviously rankles hence your negative taunt.

From past responses it's evident you really see your view as sacrosanct and therefore any alternative view is some form of sacrilege. Den's phrase "SAP's ideology" sums this up perfectly.

Do you see yourself as some sort of super poster through your dedicated allegiance to the Adver & Mr Rose because of your role as prediction league supremo or perhaps think that your members club status provides you with some sort of superior inside information that us hoi polloi are not privy to?

Agreed there is some good debate on here from a wide cross section of contributors and long may the likes of Grim, Romain, Steve, OTR, LR, Den, Oxon- R, JoeyB(minus multi ID), Mallorca, Avo, jayden, ITYL, Old Town Robin, bivver, JillyH, Dreams, Ramsbury, Pewsham, Don69, Old stager, Umpcah, Lazaat, Duke of B, oops nearly forgot Wiz & James A, Wilesy, madterrier, Highworth Red, stfc's 2012 & London, Mike's 90&K continue to do so..think that's about it -apologies if I've missed any other valued posters.

Finally -you're correct in your assumption I too am enjoying the footie which is why I am attending as many games as possible this season as opposed to last when I didnt want to see any.

Malkym says...
11:22pm Thu 23 Feb 12
