SWINDON Town and Colchester United have both spoken out against the online abuse aimed at former Robin Michael Rose over the past 48 hours.

The full-back scored the only goal of the game in Colchester’s 1-0 win at the County Ground in League One on Tuesday night and riled some members of the Swindon crowd with his celebrations.

The defender was subjected to vile insults over Twitter, with one user wishing cancer on the 30-year-old.

An account under the name @STFCTank tweeted: “Michael Rose I hope you get cancer and die.”

Other hateful abusers included ‏@sawindon, who wrote: “I think your a disgrace for the way you celebrated tonight! And in all honesty I hope your bus crashes on the way home! #c***.”

Swindon Town released a brief statement yesterday, condemning the spiteful messages. It read: “STFC does not condone the personal abuse of players, officials or fans via social media or any form following comments made last night .”

A Colchester spokesman told the Advertiser: “We try to make sure our players are respectful on the pitch and we would expect fans to be the same off it.” It is not believed that Rose will be taking up the matter with the police.
