Right, that's it from us at the County Ground this evening.
A 1-1 draw for Swindon wholely unsatisfying for the players and we can only imagine the manager, as he chose not to conduct and post-match press.
Swindon still sit sixth, however, and now look forward to a trip to Crewe on Tuesday night.
We'll see you all in Cheshire, but for now goodnight.

Pdc and Swindon go together we give him so much freedom and his ambition has so far driven #STFC to grow 2/2 #stfcadver

5:48pm
Simon Ferry is with the local press now and giving his view on the 1-1 draw with Scunthorpe:
"We think it's two dropped. We went one up and we were comfortable and the sending-off has changed the game.
"Roons went through and Gaz Roberts had a right foot over the bar so we see it as two points dropped.
"It's not good enough, to be honest, to not get a win in our last few home games. We want to be up the top of the table and we need to win these games if we are going to be there.
"I don't know if the sending-off is harsh.
"After the goal we started to find a bit of confidence and we were pasisng the ball quite well but the sending-off kills the game.
"I can't remember them creating that many chances. When you're down to 10 men and you've got chances you have to take them.
"The manager said we have to win these games. We've got aspirations to win the league and it's not good enough."
5:35pm
Adam Rooney is with the media now, and here are his thoughts post-match:
"We wanted to get back to winning ways at home. We should have won it at the end. I had a good chance and I should have scored but it wasn't to be.
"I cut across the ball too much and I dragged it and I'm really disappointed not to have scored.
"When you go down to 10 men it's always difficult because they have the extra man and you have to work hard.
"I thought we created the better chances.
"Everyone's trying to get into the starting XI, the important thing is that everyone is working hard in training. A couple of goals that I should have scored in the last two games would have helped my case."
5:24pm
If Adam Rooney could finish, #STFC would have beat Cov 3-2 last minute and Scunny 2-1 with two mins to go. Very costly misses #stfcadver

5:22pm
Darren Ward has appeared to talk to the local media:
"We're quite disappointed we didn't get the win. Although we had a man sent off we had our chances.
"He (Aden Flint) is very disappointed. He felt he let the team down but it's about 11 players and the team put in a shift.
"I think we can do better, we know we can and we've got to put it right.
"They switched the ball quite well and tried to get in from wide areas. It's a disappointing goal to give away but we didn't lose and that's important.
"I had a chance which I should have scored which I'm not very happy about. I tried to place it and be too precise.
"Sometimes you get in a bit of a groove and maybe you have to change things to get out of it."

4:05pm
ADVER SPORTS WRITER ANDY WARREN: Not the greatest half of football the County Ground has ever seen, but not the worst either. Both sides struggled to get the ball down early on, but Town seemed to settle after Collins gave the home side the lead with a superb finish. The red card for Aden Flint will cause Town a few problems, but they seem to have refound their shape.
4:02pm

2:54pm
Atmosphere building here at the County Ground, only six minutes until kick-off.
2:50pm
Captain McCormack believes manager Paolo Di Canio will always stick to his principles as Swindon manager.
“You listen to the gaffer and the gaffer’s principles of football will always stay the same, he’ll always believe in what he’s doing," he said.
“He drills that into us as players so we’ve just got to believe as well. It’s all about how you go about wanting to win the game and if you just go out and turn up you’re not going to win the game.
“You’ve got to go out and try your absolute hardest but you’ve got to come up with different ways and that’s where good players can create different types of things and play different types of ways to how they set up.
“We’ll do that Saturday and I’m 100 per cent confident we’re going to get three points and looking at the boys I think they are too.
2:50pm
With 10 minutes remaining until kick-off, here's a quick reminder of how we are allowed to cover Swindon Town games on the Advertiser website.
Due to restrictions imposed on journalists by Dataco, we are unable to give up-to-the-second commentary of events at the County Ground.
Updates are subject to a three-minute delay under the terms of these restrictions.
If you want full text commentary of the game, log onto Twitter and follow Adver chief sports writer Sam Morshead (@SamMorshead_SA).
Updates will appear on Matchday Live but will be on a three-minute delay.
2:47pm
ADVER CHIEF SPORTS WRITER SAM MORSHEAD: "After all the pandemonium off the pitch this week, how nice it is to be up in the County Ground press box ready to cover a game of football.
"The past seven days have been an interesting insight into the mind of Andrew Black and have shown the realities of what goes on behind the scenes at a football club.
"I've always banged on about how sustainability of a football club is the most important responsibility of an owner, and in appointing Sir William Patey as new chairman Mr Black appears to have taken note of that.
"But for 90 minutes at least let's think about the 11 players who will represent our local community this afternoon.
"Here's hoping they have not been affected by the off-field antics. Let's have three points."
2:44pm
Skipper Alan McCormack has had to settle for a place on the bench today, but still wants to play his part in Town regaining the home form which served them so well last season.
“It’s not been ideal. The defeats at home this year something I don’t think anyone saw coming and Saturday was almost another one but we showed on Saturday in the last 20 minute, half hour and before that when we do go at teams and put pressure on teams high up the pitch how good we are.
“Coventry couldn’t handle us for the last 20 minutes or half an hour and looking on from the sidelines you just wanted to keep it going.
“We know coming into this Saturday we’ve got to press all over the pitch, go out there angry, fighting every player that’s out there to take the ball off them and getting our passing game going again.
“We seem to have lacked that of late but we’ve worked on it all this week and we look very well this week so we’re hoping on Saturday that it all pays off."
2:38pm
DANGER MEN
Leon Clarke
The nomadic striker needs no introduction to fans at the County Ground, with his well documented outburst last August all he contributed during his time with Town. The forward scored goals during a loan move away from Swindon to Chesterfield before eventually moving to Charlton as part of the deal which brought Paul Benson to Wiltshire. Things did not go well during his time at The Valley or during a temporary switch to Crawley, but he has scored goals for fun for the Iron at the start of this season, and will need to be closely watched today.
Karl Hawley
Most prolific during his time at Carlisle, Hawley has made a decent start to life at Glanford Park where he has been used as a foil to Leon Clarke. While he may have lost the yard of pace he used to have, the striker still knows how to make the intelligent runs which create space for the rest of his teammates. Town’s centre halves will need to be wary not to be dragged out of position.
David Prutton
Another player who Swindon fans are well aware of. The midfield general returns to Wiltshire today, having left the County Ground in the wake of Town’s relegation at the end of 2011. Prutton can tackle, pass and shoot, and can quickly stamp his authority on the game if he is allowed to.
2:32pm
Leon Clarke is back.
The striker whose post-match spat with Paolo Di Canio dominated the headlines both locally and nationally returns to the County Ground with Scunthorpe this afternoon.
Clarke refused to leave the pitch at SN1 following a League Cup clash in August last year, despite the attempts by chairman Jeremy Wray to get him back to the dressing room.
Di Canio said he never wanted the forward to play for the club and he was quickly packed off to Chesterfield on loan just 12 days after joining the Robins.
The Swindon manager later said Clarke had already expressed a desire to leave the club before the pair's run-in.
It was an unsavoury incident which acted as the catalyst for Swindon's phenomenal campaign in League Two last term.

Scunthorpe subs: Severn, Kennedy, Walker, Grella, Barcham, Jennings, Collins.
2:19pm
It's worth noting, just to put the mockers on it, that Town have never lost to Scunny at the County Ground. The stat is put into perspective when we let you know that the two teams have only met 10 times in Wiltshire.
2:19pm
The last time Swindon Town hosted Scunthorpe was in February 2009, when the Robins won 4-2 thanks to goals from Michael Timlin, Hal Robson-Kanu, Lee Peacock and an own goal.
It was a rare moment of success in an otherwise miserable term for Town, and you can relive that match through former Advertiser chief sports writer Anthony Marshall's match report right here.

New Swindon chairman Sir William Patey has been speaking to the local media ahead of the game this afternoon.
He has suggested that Swindon need to get their creditors to write off the club's debts to help the three-year plan flow smoothly.
He has revealed that Sir Martyn Arbib is willing to do just that...
“Some months ago when the owners were looking to expand the boards and strengthen the board with a view to consolidating the position of the last year or two.
“I was approached in the summer and asked if I would be interested in joining the board and becoming the chairman of Swindon. Obviously I said I was interested.
“They were doing their due diligence and checks on me and there were a number of discussions.
“I knew that Jeremy was a popular chairman with the fans. He’s credited with bringing Paolo Di Canio to the club.
“I’ve been used to difficult situations in the past and what I wanted to know from the owners is why the change? They were able to satisfy me that the ambitions for the club hadn’t changed.
“I think there’s an issue of communication between the owners and the chairman had broken down so that was part of the rationale for the change.
“From a business side of it, it’s to make sure the football side of it is in the same space as the commercial side.
“I think even Jeremy would admit that he dedicated himself 100 per cent to the football side. A football club’s success is obviously determined by what it does on the field but all the other stuff has to be right too.
“Part of the problem is, to get more investment in the club we need to deal with the overhang of debt that the club has.
“Without writing off the debt issue the next stage, the next phase is going to be more difficult.
“We’ve got an owner in Sir Martyn Arbib who is ready to do it and if we can get the other debtors of the holding company to write off the debt – I know Andrew Fitton and Jeremy own some of that debt as well – but if we can get that written off, and frankly it has no real value, then we would be in a position to get more investment in the club.
“They’re not going to want to come in to provide that investment when the debt is there."
2:10pm
Full-back Callum Kennedy left Swindon in the summer to move to today's opposition, Scunthorpe, and is not surprised to see his old club doing well.
“I was expecting them to do well," he said.
“They’ve spent a lot of money and brought in some very good players to add what was a good squad last season.
“They were always going to be one of those teams that were up there, so it will be a good test for us.
“It would be a great game for me to back for. Obviously it was one I looked for when I came here. I’d love to play.
“I was at Swindon from when I was 16 and last season was a fantastic season for the team.
“I’ve moved on and I’m happy here but I’m looking forward to seeing some old faces and hopefully getting three points.”
2:06pm
Midfielder John Bostock made his first start of the season for Town in last weekend's 2-2 draw with Coventry, and he this week revealed he enjoys trying to live up to the high expectations of manager Paolo Di Canio.
“The manager here has expectations on the striker, because that is the finishing area of the pitch,” he told the Advertiser
“If I am called to play here I will be ready, especially as the manager here has played that position before.
“It is good because he has high expectations of me, and he has told me that I have good talent, but now I have to match that ability with work rate and desire, and all the other things.
“He says I have a certain amount of ability, but he is not satisfied just with that and he wants the rest of it as well.
“He is encouraging me and giving me advice, and I appreciate that, and I just want to repay him on Saturday.”

OPPOSITION BOSS: Alan Knill
The Slough-born boss has been in charge at Scunthorpe since March 2011, having made 130 appearances for the club as a player between 1993 and 1997.
The former Rotherham and Bury man started life at his new club last year with a 6-0 defeat against Norwich, but bounced back to beat Championship leaders QPR 4-1 in his very next game, but he couldn’t save the Iron from relegation.
Knill guided Scunthorpe to an 18th place finish last season, but things have been a struggle so far this campaign, and the Lincolnshire club sit in the League One relegation zone.
The Scunny boss was lucky to escape serious injury last month, after colliding with a squirrel while out on his bike.
"I got hit by a squirrel. I went over the top of my bike and landed on my head, shoulder and neck," Knill told BBC Radio Humberside.
"I saw it run into the road but couldn't do anything about it and it just hit my wheel and stuck in my wheel and hit my brakes.
"For a minute, I thought I might have been in trouble because I landed on my head. Then, all of a sudden, I thought: 'I'm not, I'm alive!'"
1:54pm
Not much colour on Matchday Live this week, I'm afraid. Our picture archive has crashed, obviously it had a long, hard Friday night.
We'll try to brighten up your afternoons with some witty words instead!
1:53pm
Matt Ritchie spoke to the media on Thursday about the prospect of several former Swindon Town players returning to the County Ground this afternoon.
David Prutton, Callum Kennedy, Mike Grella and perhaps most notably Leon Clarke come back to their form stomping - or stropping - ground with a point to prove.
Here, Ritchie talks about how he expects them to perform to an extra level today...
"They’ll obviously come back and have a point to prove. When you play against your former club or a club you’ve been at you like to play well and you try a little bit harder," he said.
“It’ll be interesting, it will be a good game and I’m sure if we start as we did against Coventry, build on that and maybe get an early goal I’m sure we’ll be alright.
“When it comes down to it it’s about Swindon getting three points and I’m sure if we win the game and put in a good performance that will all be forgotten."
And is Ritchie a marked man in League One this season?
“Maybe a little bit but that’s for me to deal with," he said. I need to up my game to resolve that and I’ll just keep working hard and trying to get on the ball and do good things with it.

TEAM NEWS
Nothing official as yet, but here are the definite ins and outs for Swindon Town this afternoon...
Andy Williams continues to recover from a calf injury and will not play a part, with Paul Benson, James Collins and Adam Rooney vying for a place up front.
In midfield, Giles Coke is back at Sheffield Wednesday receiving treatment on a foot injury and Alan Navarro has been ruled out for at least a month with a medial ligament problem in his knee.
That leaves Simon Ferry and Tommy Miller as the only recognised central midfield partnership at the club.
Miller is likely to hand the captain's armband back to Alan McCormack this afternoon, after the Town captain announced he is back to full fitness following a hamstring problem.

Town midfielder Tommy Miller believes the Swindon squad will not be distracted by the off-field events this week.
“We find out about these things like everyone else and we have had a little meeting, but it will not affect us as players because things carry on and stay the same,” he said.
“The manager has had a little word with us as well, and Jeremy did a fantastic job to take this club forward, but unfortunately he is not going to be chairman any more.
“But we move on.”
The Town squad have yet to meet new chairman Sir William Patey, but Miller is excited to hear the former diplomat’s ideas.
“We don’t really know all that much about him, but I am sure we will in the next week or two," he said.
“Jeremy has gone now and he did a fantastic job for the football club, but we look forward to meeting the new man and hearing his ideas too.
“The manager runs a lot of things at this football club and then the chairman is above him, and all chairmen are different.
“I have played at a lot of clubs and some chairmen are hands on and some let the manager get on with it, and it works either way.”
1:46pm
ADVER CHIEF SPORTS WRITER SAM MORSHEAD: "I've just had the pleasure of meeting Sir William Patey in person for the first time.
"He spoke eloquently and enthusiastically about his role and the future of the club, and answered several Adver readers' questions.
"He'll be coming to as many Swindon games as possible over the coming months, and a full and revealing interview with the new Town chairman will be available from Monday inside your Advertiser."

It has been a big week for everyone at Swindon Town, with Jeremy Wray replaced as chairman by former diplomat Sir William Patey, and the new man is at the County Ground this afternoon to watch his new team for the first time.

I know i was terrified the other day when JW left. But i feel alot more optimistic now that certain things have been said. The fans seem a little more settled and i see the logic behind the madness.
I hope the good times continue to roll, and we have a brilliant new stadium build with reall investors that will help us consolidate a position within the Championship within 2 more years!!

If sir bill has banned paolo from giving press conferences, this is probably a good thing. That is the only thing that will make paolo calmer in the long haul. By working on his PR. That the only thing i want to change.

at the end of the day, if pdc rules with an iron fist, he should have no complaints if his chairman rules with an iron fist also.

Mike, last night I was speaking to a very well informed source and I was told that Black was fed up with Wray agreeing to PDC's every demand and he thought it was time to bring in a stronger chairman. That's what I had thought anyway - and the comments came with no prompting from me. Of course my source could been bullsh1tting me but I have no reason to believe that he would. Patey's comments about a loss of confidence in Wray would seem to back up this version of events. Also I doubt if Black was too chuffed about PDC making a public suggestion that Russell Backhouse was likely to quit the board because Wray had been sacked. Stirring things up like that was out of order.
.
My guess is that PDC will be gone very soon. It will be a sad day when he does go, just as it was when JW went, but both moves may well be for the best.

Sorry, I know I bang on about this but we miss Caddis. We haven't been the same without him in the side.
Also for the first time I would say that Paolo got the sub wrong today after the sending off. We could have gone 4-3-2 and been comfortable against a poor Scunthorpe side. We had nowt up front after Benno went off. We even had to play a short corner shortly after as we had no height up front.
Not good enough for automatic I'm afraid. Play-offs at best.

DiCanio's signing this season have not been good enough, he's spent a lot of money and the board will expect to see a return. I would imagine the transfer embargo is an embarrassment to the board and I think sadly PdC's days here are numbered unless he can start getting results with the players he has bought in.
I don't think even if we beat Villa and the embargo is lifted that the board are going to back PdC demands for more players. Less than 8000 attendance will help little to lift the revenue either.

If Black et al are turning the screw it should happen fairly quickly and there is no doubt that they will have a shortlist already. There are plenty of good managers out there at the moment not in employ. Paolo could be one of the very best in the game, but his petulant mouth will always betray him.
Missing togetherness and fluidity on the pitch. I'd say most players aren't happy at the moment despite the same old comments to the contrary. I don't think many believe in the methods used and you need belief to shine. You also need room to express yourself on the pitch and theses players look like those playing through fear. We have the odd good passage of nice neat football but we are not as good as we seem to think we are and teams are coping with us. We are 6th and this is not a bad position but its not easy to get out of this league: ask Huddersfield. Things are not right. Obvious from the lack of post match interview. The next 3 games could prove to be the biggest of the season and I wonder if Villa is keeping the manager here for the moment. I'd like to see a manager respond differently with the embargo and rather than say 'I'll consider my position' say 'ok we didn't get that quite right but let's stand up and be counted, do our best with what we've got and reshuffle come jan. almost every manager in leagues 1 and 2 and a few up above would like the town job and its budget. Time will tell

The game today showed that we are getting too predictable even against one of the poorest sides this season we just played into their hands most times. Thompson was MOM today by a mile but Ritchie's very poor pass put him into trouble and he was clattered as a result and Ritchie was a pale shadow of the player we have come to love. Ferry got MOM due to Thommo going off but he was the next best player anyway. Flint let himself and the team down and won't need telling that I'm sure. We have to recall Luke Rooney he would have been the perfect foil today to run at their players and I think we are missing someone like him to challenge Roberts and Ritchie. Ritchie really is struggling and should be looking over his shoulder but who is there to pressure him. Adam Rooney is a very poor striker and Birmingham must have rubbed their hands with delight after getting Caddis in exchange even though Cadds is injured at present. Missing Williams up front but for me far too many passengers on the pitch at the moment and what on earth has happened to Jay Mac who was quite shocking today. Injuries will take their toll now and with Flint suspended we really are going to be struggling I feel. What has happened to Devera I hear he is training alone.

Too much doom and gloom on here, we still have a very good squad and still should've won with 10 men, Roberts, Rooney, Ward all should have scored and Macca twice got into very good positions where should have picked someone out with a cut back and he ws angry with himself when he didn't. Flint's first yellow was the stupid one, a needless tackle, the second was one of them if he hadn't done it a strong chance Clarke would have been clean through. As for game i do think it would have been a win without the red. Thompson did well and certainly likes a tackle, I thought Ward and Macca both did well although will be interested to see their goal again as seemed too straight forward. Big fan of Jay and did some good stuff today, particularly a couple of balls in in first half but too many sloppy things today from a class act. Ritchie still struggled to get decent balls into the box although in last 15 mins he was quite prominent and looking dangerous. Roberts has great feet and can beat a man without even touching the ball but still disappointed with how seldom the ball actually made it into box. Miller is neat and tidy but for me he's not much more than that at the minute and can't believe he is ahead of Ferry who for me was awesome again, ran all day (i'd love to see the stats for ground covered as i'm sure Ferry's would be way above most and loads more than Miller) broke up lots of their attacks, instrumental in most of our passing moves and should be in team every week. Benson was doing ok before being sacrificed looking to link play, good assist but a couple of sloppy lay offs. Collins - big hats off too him, another goal, worked his socks off and had a good game. Rooney when he came on looked dangerous and put himself about, but should have done better with his chance. Troy was solid when he was on as well. Is 2 points dropped in my opinion but still enough there to think we will continue to challenge, with 2 very good deliverers on the wings they must get the ball in the box more, appreciate there may have been less to aim at with only one striker but think this has been problem in other games as well. Interesting that the new chairman says one of the aims is to get the loans to the club written off, so that the company becomes more attractive to potential investors. He explains that Sir Martyn Arbib is prepared to write off his loan and he is hoping that AF and JW will do the same. Is it really likely that two people who have been pushed aside will say "Yes, fine, I don't want my money back." It's all very well Sir William dismissing the loans as having very little value. Surely a loan is worth whatever amount it is? I can't see the fact that there's currently little chance of the club being able to repay the debt persuading our two former chairmen to waive their right to repayment. But again I could be missing something.
I heard about the loans from the guy that sits next to me. Perhaps someone can help here !
Are our debts taken into account regarding the embargo ?
By writing off the loans will the embargo be lifted ?

My thoughts are that Ritchie may be carrying a knock, he is far from his best and to be honest a lot of the rest look like they are League Two not League One.
Rather surprised nobody has sighted RDV as a possible player who could help turn things around. His play this season is greatly improved.
Roberts is an undoubtedly a good player but there is little fluid movement to his sprints, spurts, ducking and running through. His quick lay offs and passes are great but often of the hospital pass type as the receiving player is totally surrounded or quickly tackled.
I was very annoyed that the ref allowed Thompson to become a target in the second half. He was tackled unfairly on a number of occasions which resulted in him leaving the field of play, bad, bad decisions today cost us, but then again at times our own interplay was woeful. Some players couldn't aim their own Pi55 into a bucket let alone the ball into net or box.
One thing which also stood out, to complement Ferry we needed a Jonathan Smith type player in the middle. We haven't got one just now and that showed to. Two points dropped, and I'm sorry to feel so neg but as it stands, this collection of players is not promotion material over the season. Admittedly injuries are taking their toll, but the gaffer is right, with what we have, this is not a promotion season right now, maybe later after Christmas, we shall see. still along way to go, but much work to do.

Flint's sending off was justified imo, I see nothing wrong in the ref's decision making on both offences.
.
What I saw from then on was 100% commitment and effort from our 10, and although we conceded, could have easily gone on to win it at the end.
.
I thoroughly enjoyed the game, I thought it was a full blooded affair and whilst there were plenty of bookings it never once became ugly, it was just a whole hearted, dogged affair with both teams scrapping competitively for possession. I thought the work rate from our midfield was outstanding, and special mention to Thompson too, for me he was MoM, what a prospect he is. I dont get to many games these days sp can't judge today's performance against others this season, but I really dont get post match comments like 'mid table at best this season' and 'we have no spirit'
.
Was I really watching a different game to some, or am I easily pleased, at this moment in time we have been good enough this season to currently sit 6th in the league, and as for spirit, I thought the lads displayed it in abundance today.
.
As for the comings and goings in the boardroom, and the effect on Paolo, what will be will be. Having read all articles and listened to all interviews, I firmly believe the appointment of Patey is the right move forward off the pitch, and if it means Paolo goes, as much as I don't want that to happen, i'm sure the board will want a replacement with the calibre to achieve the 3 year plan. i dont really see any need for panic...
.
Forgot (nearly) to mention that at times today, our football was sublime. Too good for league 1!!!!!

Too much high ball again today - when we put it on the floor and went at them we looked far, far better.
---.
Crewe aren't the team they were so we really need to keep the win streak going so as to make up for our home form.

Win every game away and draw every game at home would still give us the title....just a really unhappy County Ground.

Thought Collins did a tremendous job today as a loan striker and the substitution of Benson was (unfortunately) the right one.
We need to find a way of getting Ritchie more time or space, forget Caddis coz he won't be back AND he is injured. Not sure of the answer but if we can we will start firing again.
Decent position in a tight league so plenty of reasons to be optimistic.

If repayment is unlikely companies will write them down to the amount they expect to receive - thus the whopping great losses we saw in Banks in the last 5 years - as lots were written down to Nil!!! (in banks not just loans but bonds etc too)
.
Now as our loans are with our parent company we can write them off either as an equity swap or just a "profit"
.
Either way as I said yesterday if the entire amount was written off our Shareholders Equity would go from a negative £11m to just under negative £2m!
.
Now that makes it much more attractive as he likelihood of dividend payments comes a possibility as it wouldn't take much improvement year on year to take us into profit and allow a return to be made
.
I saw yesterday that Scunthorpe said the drop into L1 meant the amount they would receive in TV and League payments would be £3.7m less!!!
.
Our last figure was £1.2m so add £3.7m to that and it is £4.9m
.
Our turnover in the last accounts was £4.6m - so that is over 100% of our revenue in just TV money!!!!
.
Then add improved gate receipts, sponsorship and commercial activities and we will be looking at turnover being a realistic £10m (gates in 2010 were £3.2m so could easily be £4m+ in the Championship so that's £9m betwee those two alone)
.
So profit becomes realistic by going up - as long ad SWP keeps costs under control!!!
.
AF and JW may write them off as long as they retain shares in STFC Holdings - that way they will get a return from dividends or any sale
.
The club has no assets really - so they will lose it anyway if AB walked away - so they need to help him take the club forward for them all to realise any kind of return
.
As for the game good point like last week due to the situation - we played an hour with 10 - but certainly 2 points dropped
.
Collins is starting to come good with 3 in 3 - but we need another striker!!!!
.
If we had one as pointed out above we would of had another 4 points
.
On today showing Clarke certainly was not the answer!!!!
.
Don't think Rooney is so SWP - say no to him being in any perm deal - money only for Caddis or Jervis instead of Rooney!
.
Don't think we could have gone 432 as we would have been unbalanced
.
We would have been way too attacking and needed a double sub at that point
.
Troy to cover Flint and Macca as the shield in a middle 3
.
So who do you take off - the wingers or Ferry/Miller
.
Also today was not right for Storey due to the forced subs - maybe he could come on at Crewe to stretch them late on
.

We had nowt up front after Benno went off. We even had to play a short corner shortly after as we had no height up front. Not good enough for automatic I'm afraid. Play-offs at best. COYR! ps Sam. We couldn't remain with Nathan at Centre half and Ferry at full back so it would have have to have been Williams, Ritchie or Ferry for Macca.
I felt it was the right decision to remove Benson and try to keep what we had at the time.

Oh dear, home performances don't get any better do they. Clarke was always going to influence the game at some or so I thought, and then annoyed when he did. Even before Flints dismissal the warning signs were there and despite our goal I always thought they looked a threat.

Listened to the new chairman he must be given a chance.
As for Pdc he I must say has good points but a few bad ones.
I feel the departure of JW may have been to how much money Pdc has wasted.
Granted he has passion and again if he was promised funding over the budget this should be honoured.
However he may walk away, just hope
we get someone like Steve Cotrill as for sure we need stability,as it all appears a bit iffy right now

However, we move on and it is very clear that we are not going up this season, our home form remains shocking, we are simply not good enough against bottom of the table clubs like today and the game is up for PDC.
A likeable and lovable Manager, but he has burned our money repeatedly, bringing in and rapidly discarding players at the behest of his leech of an agent.
A very sad day PDC, but it is clearly time for you to go, goodbye and good luck and thank you for all your sincere efforts for Swindon Town.

Massive peroid of games to come now and we need to be turning things around. If not, its going to be a struggle.
Perspective thought ...
Last season P13 W6 D1 L6 = 19pts
This Season P13 W6 D4 L3 = 22pts

Defo 3 points dropped with Ward, Roberts, and Rooney guilty of missing easy chances that would have won us the game against a very poor side. Is there another Charlie Austin out there I wonder. Agree with your words and sentiments. Among others I have also brought up the subject of Ritchie, changing wings with Roberts etc. I've been lectured and berated almost as to why it is done this way. Ritchie looks a shadow of last seasons player, but with two marking him it should make openings elsewhere.
Despite my issues with the PR side of our manager I don't think now is the right time for him to go. He needs to give Patey a chance to settle in.
The team , well that still needs a lot of work. Alan Macca in midfield could be the key, others have said the same. Miller for me doesn't quite cut it, but there is no doubting he works hard.
The balance of the team has gone, though it looked better at times yesterday with Ferry working so hard in the middle.
The ref should look back at the DVD and see how Thompson was targeted yesterday in the second half leading up to the final foul which went unpunished which took him out of the game. Scunnie got away with many cynical fouls that in many cases were worse than Flints first, but no cards. I think this time I am fully justified in saying the ref had a bad game.

I do feel though that he has made us a "one trick pony"
Too much long ball which is both counter productive and boring to watch.
He has fallen out with too many of HIS signings which in a great part has lead to the transfer embargo.
I would like him to stay and complete the three year plan but only if he calms down and ceases with his "or else" statements.
I did not enjoy yesterdays game one little bit.

I have to agree with Wiz though, that i dont believe paolo will go yet. He is a fighter, and i truly believe that he wouldnt go against his own principles.
.
Having said that, if paolo is to stay longer term, he has to face facts that if he wants his squad to learn by his ways, he must be willing to be taught by his own ways. I.e, practice what you preach. Didnt paolo once say 'you dont have to love me, but follow me and we will win'. This is a great quote, and he should be listening to his own advice with respect to how his relationship with Sir bill is to pan out. He may not like him, but if they think in the same way (on reflection) then together, they and us, can win.

VERY disappointing first half from a cutting edge point of view with far too many passes going astray again along with the ball in the air for too long again and where the ball is pumped forward no-one is following it up to pick up the 2nd phase off the clearing headers.

I know I'm no professional footballer but Collins and Benson just doesn't work for me up front, surely you want a battler like Rooney with either Benson or Collins feeding off his efforts.

I believe we have the players with the skills and given the right motivation and direction they can do a job for us in this league.

Ritchie had 2 or 3 players on him again yesterday so that cuts off the supply line as the interchange between him and Thompson isn't working yet...why not surprise the opposition and play Ritchie on the left for one game using his natural foot for crosses from the bye-line or swap him regularly throughout the game with Roberts...just to be less predictable.

When we kept the ball on the ground we looked good in the second half and at the end of the day we were still the better team despite being down to 10 men. I didn't clearly see Flint's foul for the 2nd yellow but the hunch was it was right but the first yellow was a bit soft.

Disappointing at home again but keep winning away and we'll have time to turn it round.

The biggest disappontment for me was far too often the ball was in the air (again) with hopeful punts down the midldle from which we did not win hardly anything. I seriously have to question the worth of miller in the middle, I can not think of one time he actually did something positive for the team. I don't doubt when Paolo brought him in, he had a good pedigree, but then so did Prutton when he joined a couple of seasons ago, didn't think there was much to choose between them yesterday. Think Paolo will perservere with him as we don't have anyone else to replace him as a holding midfielder.
The other disappointment was the lack of ideas down our left side. Jay was well under par and Roberts had a very difficult game up against a very good right back in Riberio, who has to be one of the best in this division. Would like to have seen Raffa come on, but what with Flint being sent off, benson sacraficed and Thompson injured, it was always going to be difficult for Paolo to use the subs when and what he wanted.
Again Rooney didn't take his chance and judging by Paolo's reaction after he tried an overhead kick, I think he's fast running out of patience with him.
Still think we have problems at the back, macca did very well when he came on, but fear he maybe injured again and can't see him orThommo being fit for Tuesday. Flint is going to miss the next 2 or 3 league games and maybe even the Villa one.Ward worries me with his lack of pace and his continual hoofing, Which leaves Archibald who looked a bit more composed yesterday than last time I saw him play.
With Flint suspended, possibly macca and Thompson not fit through the knocks they took yesterday, for Tuesday's visit to Crewe we may only have 5 available to pick from, Ward, Archibald, Besonne Devera and McEverley. All this unsettlement at the back has effected Wes, he did OK yesterday but was a little bit hesitant coming for the high balls.
All in all what with injuries and lack of form or confidence with some of the players, think Paolo has problems to resolve front, back and middle. we must be down to the bare bones now and just about able to fill a bench I would say.No wonder Paolo feels he needs the embargo lifted.

He was definitely not a happy bunny as he threw his new red coat into the dugout, then his jacket and banged the dugout with his hand. A mixture of disappoinment with the lack of inteligence from some of the players, anger with the ref for not doing more with Scunnies cynical fouls and time wasting with them diving around every time they were tackled.
Al in all, don't think it had anything to do with the board not wanting him to speak. he made his own decision probably because he needed to calm down before commenting, which IMO was the right thing to do under the circumstances.

One of the reasons why Paulo did not do a post-match Press Conference was because a certain sport-orientated tv channel wanted to raise the issue of racism, with it being 'Kick It Out' day today, having had Serbia & Lazio in the news this week, plus the change of Chairman and many of the Press wouldn't be interested in the actual game v Scunny, so Paulo felt it not appropriate to appear. This came from a very reliable source 'in the camp'.

Paolo didn't do his usual pre match presser on Thursday, the only thing he commented on all week was that the cost of watching Town is money well spent in light of the BBC's cost of football claptrap.
The match programme was also lacking the managers notes, so it could be that he has been told to either say as he's told or say nothing and we all know which he would choose given that ultimatum.
His comment last week about Russell Backhouse leaving the board was probably the main reason for being silenced, either he was given false information or he presumed wrong.
Very strange atmosphere at the CG yesterday I thought, after the initial berating of Clarke in the first ten minutes it all went a bit flat for a while.
I hope we get a statement from Paolo early next week stating he (and not his agent) has had a good meeting with Sir William and that the plan is the same and it's full steam ahead for a promotion push.

I thought that would be how we would line up against Coventry, with it being Collins boyhood club he was probably straining at the leash.
I think Benson is a decent player, just lacks pace, but as the focal point of the attack does OK, and can always come on for Collins.
Nathan isn't as comfortable going forward as he is defending, and doesn't yet have that understanding with Ritchie. We need to get Ritchie into the game more and he certainly has an eye for goal. So it's 4-3-3 for me.

Southside 7 came out with some good names IF Paolo walks. I would add Old 'Arry, as Bournmouth have now settled their managerial position, and the longer things go on, the less likely it is that he gets a call from a premier league club. FInally he could still live by the sea and commute here.

I guess that is right and we were spoilt last season by having an all conquering team and not many injuries.
We started this season brightly, probably down to our pre season training.
The thing is now many are up to full speed and fitness as they see it, and we are riddled with injuries, lack of self belief and back room unrest. All of those need to be tackled not only by our manager but also by his team of trainers etc. Some private leadership/confidenc
e/re assurance privately given by Patey would not go amiss and some sort of meeting where he and our manager can give their versions to each other, "as they see it". Laying some fresh foundations and finding middle ground where those two are happy would serve to lift the team, and remove the pressure some are probably feeling. Foundations and building blocks will pave the way forward. Grunt and grit now needed to grind out the next three results.

He had a chairman too who also believed in him but suffered for this, or not really seeing the warning signs that things were getting a bit out of control.
My own view is PDC does not need to do his dirty washing in public, it attracts all the wrong press.
I feel that he will not jump ship yet, but will see how much things are going to change with a new ships captain at the helm.
I also feel there are very few clubs who would gamble on him as their manager as things stand at the moment.
As for a replacement - we'd probably go for a complete opposite type of character, but more experienced.

Find it very depressing that people can write him off the way they are doing. I have been a Town fan for many years and over the last decade+ we have constantly changed the bloke in charge. Where has it got us ?
It may ultimately be his decision but for the time being I for one want him to stay. He may be unorthodox but he put an end to the Dressing room problems many complained about under Wilson.
He has criticised (rightly in most cases) players when they have not performed but he has also praised the players when they have done well. Many come on these boards and slam players after a single performance (Bostock at Wembley was carp to many) but that's okay. Is it ?
We are well placed in the league, still in two cups and have fantastic backers. Please let's get behind Black, Paolo and the team and see what they can do.

I have been to almost every county in our small but special little country and several country`s come to that and one thing i can say for sure is the the grass is not always greener on the other side. Why don't we just support our club no matter who is manager, i can guarantee when he does go there will be several people on here moaning about whoever takes other with pathetic posts like"i'm not going all the time that c**t is in charge" and things alike,Mark my works.

PDC's own comments, along with recent events, have caused a lot of uncertainty. The ball is in the court of Sir William and PDC to lift that uncertainty.

If you've read my posts on this thread you'll see I'm not impressed with any possible replacement suggestions and for me if and I hope when Paolo is still here after Sheff Utd game I'll feel much more comfortable.

As for a replacement - we'd probably go for a complete opposite type of character, but more experienced. Tony Mowbray.

Oxon granted I have spoken about replacing PdC - I certainly don't want him to go but with the recent back room changes I feel his position is under some uncertainty -not because he will be sacked but because I fear he may not be able to manage as a manager in the way that he feels he needs to manage. I sincerely hope I'm wrong there. He made a commitment to the club along with JWray to attempt to put the club into the championship -the 3yr plan. But does he now think that, that that goal has now been made more difficult by potential restrictions on bringing in fresh blood to boost that ambition? If you've read my posts on this thread you'll see I'm not impressed with any possible replacement suggestions and for me if and I hope when Paolo is still here after Sheff Utd game I'll feel much more comfortable.
I understand where you are coming from and I understand that he may go. I believe if we want him to stay we should show our support for him rather than talk about a successor, because more likely than not, if he goes, we will be having the same discussion.
Southside to my knowledge was the only one to come up with a list but IMO only one on it would even consider coming here and I can see the board being red hot if he was appointed.
Please let's get behind Paolo and have the same manager for more than 18 months for a change. Never know it may work.

Yes, I have issues with his PR, but I'm not alone in that.
Wanting HIM to leave, well no, but that will be HIS decision and many have said, HE will make up his mind when HE is ready. For what its worth, I think he should stick it out and be the man he says he is, and honour his word. In the greater scheme of things it's been one week of surprises and uproar, really when we look back in a year or so, it will been seen for what it has been, a storm in a tea cup.
Tell the man we want him to stay, tell him we adore him, tell him we need him, this is what he wants to hear, because its what he thrives on, being the centre of attention, but for now he has met his match in Patey, he will find a way around it, of course he will, he's a fighter, so he tells us.

Sorry for the rant, I know it is not everyone but it does feel that way sometimes. I just want what is best for STFC and at the moment I don't see Paolo leaving as beneficial.

Oi Den! wrote:Den, I'm not saying that a change of manager would necessarily mean the end of any promotion dream but as has been seen already the class of opposition at this level is a cut above L2 as you would expect. Given that with less than half a season gone we have at times found it difficult to adjust to the pace and style of combating opposing teams tactics I feel that to achieve promotion with PdC at the helm will be difficult enough let alone without.
Malk, while I agree that none of those names get the blood stirred, I can't agree that PDC's departure would see the end of the promotion dream for this season. Why should it? We are still well placed in the table, Sir William has been promised that the owners' ambitions remain the same and we have a squad that must be the envy of many clubs at our level (despite the fact that there are some very dubious acquisitions in it). . Here's a novel thought - what about the possibility that we might actually become more consistent on the pitch and more stable behind the scenes if PDC were to leave? I still don't want him to go. What I want is for him to calm down a bit, manage a bit more and whinge a bit less, as sadgit and others have put it so well already. But if he does go I think any half decent new manager would have every chance of getting us promoted. . Let's hope we move onwards and upwards with PDC. But let's not fear that our world will collapse without him. We are Swindon. We're bigger and stronger than that.
You may well be right and any half decent manager might succeed but that will of course depend on many other factors such as some players may blossom more without Paolo's rather stern management style -others who came here because they were convinced "he was the man" to develop their careers may fell let down and may not want to train and perform with the same enthusiasm for someone else.
Let's hope it doesn't come to having to envisage that scenario.

OTR, that PDC is an old fish wife isn't he - going around suggesting that he might jump ship when there is no proof that he has any intention of doing it. He needs to give himself a good boll0cking, preferably in public in a radio interview, and tell himself to stop telling everyone that he might do something that nobody has any proof that he has any intention of doing. Bloody rumour monger.
Oxon, as for all of us getting behind Black and PdC, yes you may be onto something there but is Black behind PdC even?
Paolo shuts his mouth, please stay, carry on the same way, please go. Has taken 18 months of loving him one minute and hating him the next but even the 'build a statue of him' talk on here is fizzling out week on week.
Great discussion on here tonight though chaps.

I'm pretty sure he knows how much he is adored and I think that the way the fans responded magnificently to showing empathy with him in the wake of both his parents deaths struck a real chord with him so I believe he has a great affinty with the fans and wouldn't up sticks and go without sound reasons.

I believe he is and if he isn't he would need to have someone lined up that is pretty special.
As for Paolo and his rants, we have to remember that many are minutes after the final whistle when emotions are running high (RE: Dave Jones on Friday). I think Jay Wray's comments in his interviews last week bear this out as well.
We should also remember that his english, and therefore his choice of words, are not always the right ones. Add to that the foreign accentuation which can sound different to us, do you know any funny German comedians ?
Just my opinion but I would like some stability on the management side for a change.

I did hear a rumour from a very strong inner circle source who said he has heard Patey say the first thing to be purchased by the club once the embargo has been lifted is, a strait jacket for the manager, so the ground staff don't have to spend so much time on dug-out repairs. The managers game of "maim that upright", and "kick that post" is going to be off limits from now on. Once he has left the club expect lots of U-tube activety as films of our manager, going off on one, are set to appear. Maybe. Allegedly. LOL
