WOMEN'S FOOTBALL: Jones sparks an easy Town win over

SWINDON Town Ladies beat Queens Park Rangers 4-1 in the South West Combination League to complete the double over the West London side.

In the fourth minute persistent work by Michelle Rich resulted in her getting a cross in that the keeper could only parry to Catherine Reid, who drove the ball low into the net to put Town ahead.

Town doubled their lead in the 14th minute when Rich slipped the ball through the Rangers defence to Kirsty Jones who ran on to shoot low into the net.

Rangers began to get into the game and pulled a goal back in the 19th minute. Danielle Richards was fouled on the edge of Town's penalty area and Cherrelle Albert drove the ball into the net.

Reid and Kerrie Keene linked well down the Town's right to open up the visitors' defence but Jones' shot was just too high.

Albert went close to equalising but her shot flew past the post, and at the other end only a good save by Fiona Webb in the Rangers goal prevented Kerrie Keene from increasing the lead.

With just three minutes played in the second half Town increased their lead - Rich worked hard to get a cross into the Rangers goalmouth to find Jones, who laid the ball back to Keene to tuck just inside the far post.

Rangers hit back and only a fine diving save by Town keeper Robyn Levett kept out Albert's 20-yard drive.

QPR keeper Fiona Webb did well to save from Keene after good work by Alicia Hazzard. She was however helpless one minute from time to keep out Alicia Hazzard's shot after Hayley Huckin had created the opening.

Office Angels player of the match Cara Stacey said: "It was good to get the win. The strong wind made it difficult to play football at times but I felt we were worth the three points. Rangers always give us a good game and we knew that we would have to work hard to get anything from them. I'm just pleased that we got what we deserved."

Team: Robyn Levett, Cara Stacey, Sam Quinn, Kim Reeves, Lisa Coe; Catherine Reid (Laura Stallard), Alicia Hazzard, Michelle Brown, Kerrie Keene; Michelle Rich (Amber Eggerton) and Kirsty Jones (Hayley Huckin).
