The Swindon Advertiser annual sports awards is back in town. Sponsored and hosted once again by Blunsdon House Hotel, this year’s awards will see 10 awards handed out to recognise Swindon sports stars. Awards up for grabs are Sports Man of the Year; Sports Woman of the Year; Young Sports Man of the Year; Young Sports Woman of the Year; Performance of the Year; Team of the Year; Young Team of the Year; Coach of the Year; Grassroots Unsung Hero and Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Swindon Advertiser sports desk have carefully selected four nominees for each category and chosen the winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award. We are however looking for nominees from the public for our Grassroots Unsung Hero Award. This award is designed to recognise a member of the Swindon sporting scene who doesn’t normally receive the recognition they deserve for their contribution. Last Year’s winner was Charles North of Swindon Sonics Basketball Club for his tireless work with the club behind the scenes over the last decade. Nominees for the Unsung Hero Award will be announced on Tuesday 24th January 2012 inside a special eight-page pull-out inside the Swindon Advertiser. The awards ceremony at Blunsdon House Hotel will take place on Tuesday February 21st 2012 and voting information will appear regularly in the Swindon Advertiser until the voting lines close. Coverage including pictures from the awards night will appear in the Swindon Advertiser immediately after the event and we will also be producing an eight page pull-out on Thursday February 23.
