Peterborough United v  Swindon Town

Ah, London Road, that happy hunting ground. Since our last win against the Posh, a 2-0 win on the Boxing Day fixture of 2004, Town have played the seven times and recorded three losses and four draws.

Cast your minds back to October 16, 2010. Town took to the field with Lucas, Rose, Morrison, Cuthbert, Amankwaah, Douglas, Ferry, Ritchie, McGovern, Ball and Pericard. We even had a young, well younger, Nathan Thompson on the bench, along with Austin and Caddis

Town found themselves three down within 22 mins, but were able to drag it back with two quick goals, one from David Ball (24’) and another from Matt Richie (30’). Ball then pounced on a mistake from Rowe on the half way line, ran half the length of the pitch, rounded the keeper and made it 3-3 at the break.

Second half saw Paul Smith come on to replace Lucas between the sticks and it wasn’t long before he was picking the ball out the net as Posh retook the lead on 58’. Yet all was not lost. Charlie Austin, a first half sub, on for Pericard, slots home a Town penalty after a handball on 73’, all square. Both sides were piling on the pressure and it really was anybody’s game. But the gods favoured Peterborough as Kevin Amankwaah puts through his own net in stoppage time.

This time out could be just as dramatic. Town need to win to retain the pressure on 'that team that shall not be named', Peterborough need to win to try and consolidate their place as playoff contenders. Though, let’s also not forget that when the Town pull off and emphatic win, the next game can be a bit disappointing: Leyton Orient away (1-2), then Plymouth away (3-2). Preston home (1-0), then Cheltenham away (5-0). Bristol City home (1-0), then Posh away ?? - ??
