DEFENDER Harry Toffolo has said that he would ‘love to stay’ with Swindon past his current deal as he targets promotion with the team.

The 19-year-old has recently extended his loan deal from Norwich City until the end of the season and is hoping to have a helping hand in returning Swindon to the second tier of football for the first time since the turn of the century.

Toffolo’s contract with Norwich City runs out at the end of the season but they have the option to keep him for another year.

The left-back though is enjoying his time at SN1 and has made the left-wing back role his own since arriving in October and is hoping to taste promotion success with the club.

When asked what his plans were for the new year he said: “Hopefully first six months get Swindon promoted to the Championship and then from then on it is between the two clubs to review what I have done this year and the ball is out of my court.

“I would love to stay here but it is one of those things. I have got to speak to Norwich and speak to Swindon and whatever they agree then that will be final.

“It is a club option so if the club say yes we’ll have him for another year they can do that but it is entirely up to them and hopefully it will all get sorted.

Toffolo played his first full 90 minutes in the 1-0 win over Port Vale last Sunday as he returns from a medial ligament injury.

The teenager has enjoyed his short stay at the County Ground and is getting used to the different challenges of playing league football.

“It is really good to be back training again,” added the defender who is expected to play this weekend against Fleetwood Town.

“I thought when I had my medial ligaments in my knee, it was niggling at me and I was thinking it’s not getting better and the physio was like no just keep going and doing the exercises and then suddenly it’s changed and it all feels really good.

“Going into the game on Sunday I thought my knee is going to be dodgy but it was fine for another 90 minutes and it gives me confidence.

“It shows that my knee is stable and it’s able to strive forward now.

“It’s been a journey, but I am very pleased that Swindon gave me the opportunity to get my first football league experience and it is one of those things that I thought to myself just go and take it.

“I have really enjoyed it. The fans have been very welcoming the players have been excellent.

“The fact that you are playing in front of thousands of people instead of your mum and dad and maybe ten other people.

“It means a lot more to me and those players in there to play in this sort of environment.”
