EVERYONE at the County Ground will be walking around with crossed fingers in the hope it increases the likelihood of good news from the scan on Louis Thompson’s shoulder injury.

The 19-year-old fell awkwardly after an aerial challenge at Gresty Road in the 0-0 draw with Crewe on Saturday and was stretchered off.

An X-ray after the game provided some hope, with the 19-year-old suffering no obvious fracture. Thompson underwent a soft tissue scan today, leaving Town boss Mark Cooper hoping for a similarly positive piece of news on the midfielders ligaments.

“He had a scan at lunchtime today (Monday) to reveal how much soft tissue damage he has sustained,” Cooper told the local media.

“At the moment he’s in a lot of pain and shoulder injuries can be quite nasty in terms of their recovery.

“It’s not a fast healing process so we’re just waiting on a scan and fingers crossed he’s just pinched or stretched ligaments and not damaged them.”

The midfielder took to Twitter on Sunday to assure Town fans that he had not played his last game for the club. However should the injury require surgery it would be doubtful whether Thompson would recover before the end of the season.

“If he has to have surgery then it’ll be a couple of months,” said Cooper, who in doing so set an estimated return for the start of May – the end of the season – should his man have to go under the knife.
