NATHAN Thompson believes his striking teammates just have to find a bit of fortune to get back scoring ways.

Town’s goals-per-game average has been on the slide as their results have dipped. The previously prolific Andy Williams, Michael Smith and Jonathan Obika have scored two goals between them since the 3-1 win over Chesterfield back in January.

The skipper has been keeping an eye on the strikers in training and has noticed an upturn in effort over recent weeks as they search once more for the goal trail.

Thompson’s observations have led him to the belief that the problem it is not a lack endeavour, instead it is simply luck has been elusive.

“We just haven't had the rub of the green,” Thompson told the local media.

“You've seen the lads in the early part of the season score from all angles - it hasn't been the case recently but they've been no different in training.

“They've gone about their work and they are probably working even harder now - I know that with the quality they've got it will come good for them at an important time.

“You see it all the time with strikers - it's like London buses - two come along at once and we'll be on a roll - I've got a feeling that will be the same with our strikers and our results.

“We have the top goalscorer in the league at the end of the day, we have to remember that.”

Nathan’s brother Louis is back with parent club Norwich receiving treatment for the shoulder injury he picked up at Crewe. Nathan Byrne did not train today but should recover from a dead leg meaning Town have not got any fresh injury concerns ahead of Saturday.
